The Power Moves applies sociology, psychology, and science to teach all-around social skills including dating, relationship management, and leadership.
What sets The Power Moves apart is a focus on power dynamics with relevant, real-life scenarios and situations.
In 2017, talking over a wine with a particularly persuasive colleague, Lucio Buffalmano finally decided to start ThePowerMoves.com.
It wasn’t the first time friends, mentors, mentees, and colleagues encouraged him to launch his website.
But this time something clicked.
It was going to be a big change in lifestyle.
And of course, going from zero to a minimum survival income was going to be lots of hard work with uncertain results.
But it didn’t feel like a big decision.
Not that Lucio believes much in “destiny”, but it felt as if there were no other choices anyway.
It felt like the answer to a calling he simply had to take.
Maybe it was the anger still simmering at a(nother) colleague being sacked and bullied out of his rights just a few days prior.
Or maybe it wasn’t a single person, but the spirit of generations of nameless men and women robbed of a real chance in life.
Sometimes victims of evil and greedy men, certainly. But also of their own ignorance and submissiveness.
In both cases, he believed, there was much we can do.
Both as individuals and, collectively, as humankind.
And maybe there was a slight arrogance in the belief of being able to help change that.
But also a sense of duty that if you can, you must.
After all, the author believes that a world where everyone masters and understands the dynamics of power is a good world.
It’s a world where abusers have no preys. And it’s a world everyone meets his potential.
Robin Hood Spirit
There is a hint of Robin Hood spirit in The Power Moves.
And a hint of anger at the injustices and abuses in the world was one of the driving forces behind its foundation.
Learning about the human’s dark side and leveraging our anger for positive outcomes remains one of the pillars of The Power Moves.
The Power Moves Launch
In May 2017, ThePowerMoves.com launched.
In the beginning, it was a few articles on how to deal with assholes. That is, after all, the main WHY and founding spirit of the website: teaching people to stand up for themselves and empowering you, the readers, to reach your life potential.
And there were lots of book summaries and reviews of course.
Lucio has always been an avid reader and wisdom seeker (many of those notes were already sitting on Lucio’s hard drive).
Lucio dedicated himself 100% to ThePowerMoves when he finally dropped his last job as a real estate freelancer in December 2017.
Sales was great and Lucio loved the learning opportunities of dealing and negotiating with people. First and foremost with the assholes and super-rich as they provided the best case studies (those two categories overlap more often than pure randomness would have).
But by then he knew quite a bit already and working full time on ThePowerMoves provided even more growth opportunities.
The website grew very quickly.
It was 2.000 users a month in December of 2017.
It more than doubled in January 2018 and more than doubled again in February 2018 to reach 8.000 visitors/month.
Lucio had long known that the available information on social skills and social dynamics was nowhere as good and useful as it should be.
Advice on relationships, dating, and social skills was often shallow, simplistic, polly-annish or even plain wrong.
ThePowerMoves published deeper content backed by science, countless books, and lots of personal experience.
But Lucio’s main goal was to make the advice very actionable, and that’s why most of the articles use real-world examples, dialogues and videos.
And it helped people a lot.
Readers loved it and would write and report on life-changing breakthroughs in their lives.
The biggest pleasant surprise for Lucio was to realize there were many more driven people that he had imagined.
And together with wisdom seekers looking for deep reviews and criticism of books and learning resources, people like you pushed ThePowerMoves to new records almost every single week.
By the end of 2018, the site had blown past the 100.000 visitors a month.
ThePowerMoves: Featured In
At the time of writing, March 2019, ThePowerMoves.com still hasn’t celebrated its second year in business and Lucio hasn’t focused much on marketing so far.
So he likes to think that it was the quality of the content and information that led him to be quoted as a subject matter expert on people, psychology and social dynamics, on the following websites:
- BBC (on the psychology of travelers)
- Psychology Today (on the psychology of unfaithfulness in committed relationships)
- Glassdoor (on “unconventional ways” to land a job, ie.: social power moves)
- Yahoo (on passive aggression)
- Business Insider (on cheating and dating)
- Inc (on social engineering)
- NBC (on social skills and effective network-building)
- Market Watch (the psychology of self-talk and controlling one’s own perceptions and emotions)
- ResearchGate (a scientific research publication linking to some of my reviews)
- Countless mentions on Reddit, Quora, forums and universities’ private groups
Plus many more. And still counting.
About The Author
Lucio Buffalmano is a sociologist and a member of the IAPP (international association of applied psychology) and APA (American Psychological Association).
He obtained his master degree in communication -department of sociology- in 2011 with a thesis on the socio-psychological roots of the financial crisis (there is an abstract on this website as well).
Lucio enjoys reading, self-development, deepening his knowledge of people and psychology and, he says, going on adventures.
That’s what he says though: people who’d known him in the last couple of years would say he’s the most boring person ever, working and nothing more :).
He also likes dating around.
Lucio enjoys romance as one of the beauties of life, albeit recently he hasn’t had that much time for that either.
Oddly enough, he also takes pride in being far from any ideal of handsome man: as for everything else in life, he much rather prefers to earn his stripes rather than having anything handed to him.
He is currently having a great time serving as the president of a public speaking Toastmasters club. He takes great joy and pride in seeing people around him grow and improve, and the club grew so quickly they had to introduce a waiting list for new members.
He has won several competitions as a speech evaluator, where he leverages the same skills he uses for his work: his background on sociology, a passion and solid grasp of psychology, body language training and the usual analytical approach which he also applies to people and communication.
Ultimately though, this website is for you.
To you, to a happy and fulfilling life and to your continuous growth,
