Power University content updates & discussions: what's new
Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on February 22, 2023, 4:10 pmToo much great stuff to quote any single passage.
So thank you so much guys, truly enlightening.
I gotta say that I agree with both.
Yes, it's a key topic for social and life success, as well as for increasing one's personal power.
And also yes, Ali's got a point that the basic "steps to make friends" may not be "core PU topic".
However, as Ali said, if people find it helpful and needed, the n PU would miss out an important piece to just take it out.
So right now I'm leaning towards a mix of both:
- Remove the basic "how to make friends" lesson BUT
- Keep it as a link-out for those who want it / need it as either an article, or forum post in the private area. So it's still available for whoever wants it (and still, of course, improving it over time)
- Focus PU on tackling more "power-related" topics such as:
- How to gain status
- How to maintain status
- Common mistakes that lower your status
- How to behave in high-power circles
- Common mistakes that lower your status in high-power circles
- ...
Incidentally, I think these are the topics that are not really present anywhere else and where PU may make the greatest impact.
And open to changing my mind once again if any of you has anything to add:

Quote from Zathrian on February 22, 2023, 9:48 pmI really like the idea of common mistakes that lower your status and other things along that line. I think articles on common/easy ways to raise your status/act more high power would be a good addition as well(I know you already have a little in Power Tech but more in depth detail like an entire subject or more modules would be good as the course is called Power University).

I think this is an awesome addition. Both foundational and extremely valuable for the majority of the members here. I think if you had parents that guided but didn't over-shelter, had brothers and sisters, had part time jobs at high school and college, worked a variety of people oriented jobs etc. you would have absorbed enough power dynamics to get by. And if you are a natural as some people seem to be you'd just 'get it'.
I'm a typical example of the other demographic. Got by in my career on technical skills and being a nice guy. Absorbed enough people skills to climb the ladder a bit but would typically lose when I came up against a polished power mover. After the learnings here, lot of work to do to make it reflex but already its' better.
And I think that the PU/forum learnings are often immediately applicable. It's like a door prize when you start at TPM 🙂
Because hardly anyone starts from zero. You do have some existing skills and tricks. The PU framework shows you why and when your tricks work so you can use the tools you have more effectively.

Great lesson thanks!
Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on September 11, 2023, 10:38 amSmall update on teacher power dynamics:
People who play the teacher roles don't want you to grow.
The game of teacher is to feed their own ego, so you growing is a threat to them.
Their teaching isn't only useless, often it's quicksand to keep you stuck.
This may actually be relatively common, so it's a good idea to approach most teachers considering this possibility (some more details on how to spot them in the PU lesson).
