Editorial Policy

In the self-development industry crowded with personal opinions, marketing fanfare, and what sells instead of what works, The Power Moves (TPM) stands out as a credible, authoritative, and truth-based source of information anchored in the full empirical research literature.

At TPM, we’re committed to providing you with trustworthy, accurate, and actionable information that works, so you can focus on applying it and reaping the rewards. We use an established Editorial Process to ensure we’re giving you the best possible information.

Our Editorial Process is based on 5 pillars:

  1. We choose high-authority writers only who possess first-hand experience and proven real-world success in what they’re sharing, a deep knowledge of the full research literature, or both.
  2. Clear labels for what constitutes our informed opinions/analyses VS personal experience(s) VS empirical evidence. We don’t believe that any of those three is inherently superior, but we believe it’s crucial to let you know which is which.
  3. Clear labels for “general rules” VS examples & case studies. We view both high-level “general rules” and specific case studies as fundamental to learning. We clearly label them because we see it as a frequent error in self-help to over-generalize a rule or mistake a single anecdote for a universal principle.
  4. Continuous monitoring and updating of content. As the TPM community tests and refines strategies in the real world, and as the body of research literature expands, we constantly update our previous articles to ensure they remain the most accurate resources available.
  5. Our very own 3-pillars golden rule: Experience, Science, and Rationality. We seek to write only when we have:
    • Experience: Either personal or through studying others—ideally both, and in high volume.
    • Science: Comprehensive synthesis of the full empirical research literature and high-level handbooks, moving beyond isolated, headline-grabbing studies to find high-probability trends.
    • Critical analysis: Connecting the dots between data points to draw meaningful conclusions, general strategies, and practical advice.

Reviews Policy

Our content is divided into two parts: our original strategy articles and our reviews of books, courses, and “gurus.”

We apply the same rigorous standards to our reviews as we do to our own articles. By benchmarking external content against the full body of research literature and real-world effectiveness, we help our readers discern high-quality information from marketing hype, “space fillers,” and lies.
