Alejom, an introverted into a Digital Nomad adventure (+ why I joined PU)
Quote from Alejom on January 6, 2023, 10:17 amYou read right. Originally from Spain, but for the last 3 years I wanted to move somewhere else and there was always something tying me up (trainings, girlfriend, etc). Now I literally had no excuses: I'm 33, single, and despite moving means leaving things behind (friends, comfortable life, family...), I decided to take my chance and live for 1-2 months in different countries and cities. No return dates, just explore and live.
But first, a bit about myself.
Who I am?
I work remotely as a team manager for an IT company. Our team is responsible for communicating and establishing relationships with a developer community (perfect chance to learn social power 😏).
If we ever meet in life, you'd prefer to know I love exploring cities, sports (martial arts & calisthenics, but not only), a total foodie (wine & ham passionate, as a pure-blood Spanish) and people consider me friendly, curious and a bit adventurous.
But, while I love meeting people & socialising, my social battery is not that high and after a few interactions I rather need my self-time. You'll find me reading and drinking a tea, having a brunch, walking, cooking (oh, I love cooking) or just doing things by myself.
Why am I in Power University?
Uh, many reasons. As background, I've never felt competent in my social skills, nor dating. I'm anxious around people (still am a bit). In fact, I started studying computer science and was a total nerd. I preferred machines than people.
But after a few years, things changed. I broke up a 7-years relationship, had a period of agoraphobia (traveling was scaring me as hell) and, for some reason, I started preferring people rather than machines (and honestly, I felt dealing with machines is easier than people).
5 years passed, and things have improved a lot. I won't count how many trips I did, surely 15+ countries, my work now is around people and relationships, and managed to get better at dating.
Still, I feel half-way to the person I'd love to be and would love to improve few things:
- Being better social player: understanding social interactions in order to make better decisions and have more control of the situations
- Assertive: I can come across as highly warm, but for that reason some people (maybe machiavellians) can take advantage of me and I find it difficult to handle situations and make myself respect.
- Charisma: I'd love to develop the skills to be more listened, memorable and captivating.
- Frames: I've read many times about frames + social interaction. I feel is a big thing, really, but I still don't know what they really are or able to identify them.
- Persuasion: I'd love my ideas get better to people and develop my convincing skills
Won't make this longer... happy to join a community of motivated people to develop ourselves! Hope to interact a lot with you and learn together.

Thank you for the detailed background info, and great to have you here!
Winters are the best times to be a nomad :).I'm also more on the introverted side by the way.
And once you learn to better socialize and have a good time with people, you also look more forward to interacting with others.
