Common power moves in healthcare
Quote from John Freeman on January 11, 2024, 4:37 pmHello TPM community,
here are a few common power moves in healthcare:
What matters is the patient: Used during a conflict between health professional. Implies the other party is petty selfish non-professional and non-compassionate. virtue signaling status game
What matters is the clinic: meaning the clinical state of the patient is more important than the lab values. It’s obvious and relates to above: the patient’s state matters more than labs or x-ray. Success status game.
It’s a bundle of evidences: it means that it’s not a single element that makes the diagnosis. Obvious but people use it to social climb. Success status game.
To all of these the defense is not to ask a question or make a statement that invites those power moves. Or one could disarm using: “I know it’s a bundle of evidences/the clinic matter, I would like to know what you think about this particular element”.
In a conflict, the goal is to be the first one to use the first script.
So these are common traps. Easy to fall into but easy to deal with.
