Confidence - Strategies for Building Your Mental Fortitude/Self-Assurance
Quote from Ali Scarlett on February 8, 2020, 5:39 amHi Lucio,
Confidence is a big topic. Especially since, generally speaking, most people don't understand how to build it but crave it to feel better about themselves.
From what I understand, there are three different types of confidence:
- Confidence: Confidence is your trust in a single ability. This form of confidence is area-specific. (Ex: If you’ve been power lifting for years, but you’ve never learned to cook, it doesn’t matter if you can dead lift 600 pounds. You will not be confident in your ability to cook. Confidence is area-specific.)
- Core confidence: Core confidence is your trust in yourself. It’s a basic, fundamental trust in your ability to face the challenges that lie ahead.
- Self-esteem: Self-esteem is how highly you value yourself. It’s how much you respect yourself and how much you love yourself.
The confidence I am looking to discuss is "core confidence".
I hear a lot of bloggers encouraging men to "have a vision" and "know yourself" to build this kind of confidence.
I also read one of your works where you suggested placing confidence in your constant growth, not so much in your successes, victories and achievements. (That way, when you fail, you aren't torn down by rejection, feelings of incompetence, etc.)
What strategies do you use to build that confidence?
I've tried using positive self-talk. Telling myself that as long as I'm growing it doesn't matter whether I win or lose is something that I'm realizing takes practice to start fully believing.
Do you use/encourage meditation? What are your thoughts on affirmations?
Kind regards,
Ali
