Really good channel.
Applies not just "science", that I'm more and more convinced is far more often wielded as a tool for manipulation than truth, but critical thinking, which I'm more and more realizing is the real true differentiator between great teachers/info, and poor ones.
Just one example where he reviews the "Wim Hof Method".

But this is bad (the way he talks about his imaginary own jealousy):

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on July 29, 2023, 4:20 pmRecently I've been looking at a few historical documentaries.
I've also been somewhat interested in history, and it's a great opportunity to dig a bit into strategies, military strategies, interpersonal relationships that shape whole countries' policies, etc.
Generally speaking, recent events tend to be too muddled by secrecy, media manipulation, and various false news to get a clear idea -for example, nobody knows what really happened with Prigozhi, so you get a lot of opinions and bias, and little facts-.
Historical events can be seen with a lot less bias and a lot more information from both sides.I've seen a couple documentaries from this channel and they seem really well done:

Also the ones on WWII are great.

Quote from John Freeman on July 29, 2023, 9:12 pmThank you very much Lucio.
I love history and I’m always looking for things to watch as entertainment that are somewhat enlightening. I’m going to check it out.
Off-topic
BTW I went through the thread about movies about power. Watched « Meet the Parents » yesterday I could not extract the dynamics you did as I watched it. Hats off. I enjoyed it and could not see as well as you all these subtleties.

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on August 3, 2023, 11:40 amNot necessarily recommending the full channel, but I ended up on Patrick Boyle's channel more than once.
This video on Forbes "lists" as a low-quality mix of people paying for PR and dark triad leaders was very interesting:
https://youtu.be/V36kSqwjaaw
In my opinion, he may be a bit too much on the derisive side.
There is something about constantly making fun of people that feels a bit too power-movey (or slimy) to me.
However, some of the jokes are great, and the content is golden.
I also post this here to link to PU.
There is a lesson on how to deal with sociopaths at work.
And one of the protagonists in that lesson was in one of these Forbes lists.

Quote from Bel on August 4, 2023, 3:13 amThank you for sharing Lucio,
I took a peek at some videos in his channel and it’s very interesting.I got some pearls of wisdom from it:
- companies or people being included in “articles” or “lists” of “top people” are usually a marketing tactic rather than objective news, and thus may indicate an issue with the person or company (which needs propaganda to stay afloat);
- companies complaining about “short sellers altering the stock value” may indicate trouble in the company!
Makes much sense in light of all I learned here.
It’s interesting that these things do work to skew the view of the majority, but no more once one begins to understand the counterintuitive patterns (or rather, the true relationship between cause and effect).

Yes, exactly.
And it may even become a contrarian red flag.
Both at the higher level (those who end up committing fraud as the channel says) and at the lower level (those who've been hiring PR firms).
If I know my colleague who hasn't done anything special ends up in a similar list, I know he's making status-enhancing moves.
Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
As a matter of fact, it may be a smart move and you should consider doing the same.
But it still tells you that you got a strong competitor for advancement (and it may be a red flag IF he focuses a lot more on PR than work, as it's the case for the PU lesson where the focus was 90% on networking/promotion/power displays/shortcut seeking).
Thank you for the note, Bel.

Quote from John Freeman on August 19, 2023, 6:28 pmHello,
here is a channel that is quite "red pill": Masculinism. The value is in uncovering women's manipulation in relationships (some men manipulate as well of course). Caveat: it's quite one-sided and pro-male. I also have to say that I think Myron is a very smart guy and he also has a controlling side to him (does not let his GF go out with her friends to a night club). Sometimes I also think he's too dominant and rude with the female guests. So there's good and bad. It's important as we said here not to become too cynical and even more important not misogynist. That's the risk of this kind of thinking. It appeals to some men that are already bitter and can make them even more bitter.
The value are in the reasoning which are debunking certain myths. I have to admit that I appreciated to see the looks on some women's face when he exposes manipulation. Sometimes manipulation that they're victim themselves due to the culture for instance.
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Z66t_JDKjgM
It's a short so I won't extract text from it.
Her frame: a man should take care of his wife's child if he's been cuckolded: it's noble and what a high-value man does.
His frame: this is hypocritical because yourself are not helping people who are in distress.
My analysis: raising someone else's child after a betrayal is what low power men do. Because they don't have any other choice/options. They cannot afford to say "no".
Saying that it's noble and what high-value men do is a manipulation to get him to support and raise the child.
Here it's only the purely material approach to it. Love and feelings can change all of it of course.

Quote from John Freeman on August 27, 2023, 8:20 pmHello TPM community,
this is an interesting channel: "Body Cam Watch"
It's basically police arresting people What is interesting for us is the power dynamics and the manipulation the people who don't want to be arrested play. They say they're not arrested when they are, they ask "why" to put the police into justification, they task the police, guilt-trip, threaten, play the victim, demean the police, insult, baby the police, etc. So it's interesting because you get to see all the manipulative tactics people use. When some people are cornered, just like children who don't want to go to bed they get their whole arsenal of manipulation out.
Of course many of them are manipulator immature assholes. That is, it seems that they lived their whole lives as assholes and the police come when they went over the line one too many times.
Like this lady, I'm not going to extract some text as it's too long but if you're interested in seeing a bona fide manipulator resisting arrest it's this one. As she's not drunk. There are also several videos with entitled drunk people so they get a bit the benefit of the doubt for the alcohol. Even if I think that if you're an asshole when you're drunk, you're probably an asshole sober as well. Just able to hide it.
