Defense against boasting power moves

Hello guys,
as you know narcissistic people and/or social climber will exaggerate their social contribution, achievements or qualities.
How to react when they act like this?
Option 1: to exaggerate: "yes man, it's obvious you are the smartest man in the World". This is using humor. However, it amplifies their thread and it is following them.
Option 2: assertiveness: "Man, I think you're exaggerating a bit to make yourself look good in this situation"
What do you think? Other options?
