Defending against: "Don't let yourself be pushed around!"

Hello guys,

A. is a gold mine of covert agressive tactics. Here is one of them:

Context: We were playing a board game. It's a game that requires one to read text while the other ones are listening. It's basically a collaborative RPG in Sherlock Holmes World where you have to solve a murder together. We were quite drunk and this game requires concentration. I did not know that and it was my mistake. So people were having a blast and were all over the place. It was my turn to read and I did my best to focus read loud and clear and not listen to the non-sense.

Here is A. coming:

  • Him: "Don't let yourself be pushed around!" as if he's encouraging me
  • Me: continuing reading.

However I did feel encouraged by him. That is the manipulation. It's putting himself above as if I was not able to do it myself. He said it a second time (so proud he said something smart). Here is what I propose as a defense:

  • Him: "Don't let yourself be pushed around!"
  • Me: "Don't worry about me, dude, it's all good"

And then if he continues (copyright Lucio):

You: When someone is trying to concentrate and you tell them "don't let yourself pushed around", it feels like you're attacking and making fun of them. Some people do that as a way of feeling superior, but it's actually just annoying.
I really need to find friends more secure within themselves, lol.

Him: "Don't let yourself be pushed around!"

Do you think that he is a value-taking individual when sober?

Maybe a sarcastic comeback could work:

Him: Don't let yourself be pushed around!

You: Don't worry! I will pull you toward me.
(Maybe people are wild and crazy so you can even pull him towards you physically in this context)

If he keeps on making this type of remarks even when sober, then I would go with Lucio's assertive and partially meta-statement:

You: When someone is trying to concentrate and you tell them "don't let yourself pushed around", it feels like you're attacking and making fun of them. Some people do that as a way of feeling superior, but it's actually just annoying.
