Dienekes Introduction
Quote from Dienekes on January 16, 2023, 9:03 amI am a 34 y/o male, and I have recently separated from the military, where I spent the last 9 years in the special operations community. I am grateful for my experiences; however, I could no longer accept the status quo within the DOD. When the vaccine mandates came around, I was one of the few who held the line and said no to a forced medical procedure that was illegal and unethical. I have watched the DOD discharge thousands of people over this mandate, only to reverse it a few years later. This experience was a wake-up call for me! Never again will I allow an institution to determine my future. In addition to watching my career go up in flames and my dreams smashed against the reality of life, I also went through a divorce (my fault) and rebound relationship that caused more pain and grief than it was worth (also my fault). Upon my exit from the military, I was mired in grief, uncertainty, anger, and depression. I am still working through this transition and ready to make a change! I'm finally waking up and finding the determination to control my life.
I joined TPU a few years ago, but life got noisy, and I didn't stick with the curriculum. I wish I would have because I know now that had I mastered these skill sets, I would have been better equipped to handle the life events I described earlier. In short, I am here because I believe change can only start with yourself, and I want to change my life. I am naturally assertive and opinionated; however, I want to polish my game and improve how I move through the world. I want to become an effective leader and to do so I need a software upgrade. I need to improve my social skills, communication style, and self-esteem, and TPU is the place to start.
I am looking forward to becoming a contributing member of this community!

What a badass nickname. You went through a lot and even in the face of hardships you keep a "good, then we shall have our battle in the shade" disposition.
Be very welcome, man

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on January 16, 2023, 3:23 pmHello Dienekes, good to see you here.
Respect for the courage of fearlessly following your convictions until the bitter end, to hell the heavy costs.
I never liked the idea of impositions and mandated "stay at home" orders, but did make the first round of vaccine.
And then started feeling a lot more like you when it seemed more and more like a slippery slope and turned into booster this and booster that, show us the pass to get into the bus, etc. etc.If you start assertive and opinionated chances are you'll have your work easier since adding warmth, some polish, and some good strategizing is often easier than going from meek to more assertive.
And if you have any questions or any situation you'd like feedback on, feel free to share.
I have a feeling that in a few short years you'll look back and be glad for all that's happened -driven and resourceful people have a way of turning challenges into opportunities for growth and improvement-.

Quote from Dienekes on January 20, 2023, 7:12 amThanks all for the warm welcome. Thank you Lucio for the encouragement. I think many people have found themselves questioning our governments decisions over the past two years no matter what side of the fence you're on.
I'm looking forward to posting some situations soon but I need some time to understand the dynamics of the forum and the rules so I don't step on anyones toes. Becoming socially aware is difficult because it feels like I'm overanalyzing situations. I'm sure this is normal and I'll improve with time.
Kavalier, awesome you got the nickname reference. Dienekes is arguably the best character in "Gates of Fire" at least in my opinion! Open to debate haha!
Thanks again for the warm welcome talk soon.

Just a quick note on this one:

No worries about that, really, maybe the recent events in the feedbacks thread gave the wrong impression, but most people are pretty chill and nobody overreacts for small and unintentional toes-stepping :).
And even if it happens, great: the forum is an opportunity for learning that stuff at a much smaller cost than in real and "analog" life.
Thank you for the note man!
