Don't be too hard on the negative element
Quote from John Freeman on December 2, 2023, 12:36 amHello TPM community,
something I've learned today from a head nurse (cool guy I get along naturally with):
"In each team, there is always a negative element. If you're too hard on that negative element, this person is going to push the team against you".
And that is exactly what is currently happening. So to counter that I have to be more in the field and add more value to them individually. Take back the leadership through value adding. I could isolate this person, but this is too much work for a negative element. Not worth it. Better to pull up myself and the team. And let them scratch alone the ground of negativity and low-performance to look for ego candies.

Though I'd make an important note:

He is potentially going to TRY.
Whether or not he's successful, it's a whole different thing, and that in large part is also up to you.

It’s helpful as I’m going to confront a negative nurse element who said in front of the team talking to me: « you still believe in Santa Claus you! » on a dismissive tone. I was saying that I think the child is going to leave the hospital tomorrow. So that diminishes the fear she’s going to turn the team against me. And in my new role I must be able to withstand a team turning against me because of smear campaign.
And yes I agree with you about challenging and interesting. With our worst resident element that’s when I learn about people management. For good elements little people management skills are needed of course.

Now I have 5 months left so I’m going to confront every person who disrespect me as learning experience. Fear of conflicts is one of my challenges so I’m going to have more confrontations under my belt as it’s now part of my job. And I need more respect than before for credibility. So now it’s not like only personal it’s professional as well. Also I used to prefer these people not to know/think they could have an effect on me. Now I don’t care what they think.
