"Gaslighting thread" accidentally deleted: sorry all!
Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on January 30, 2023, 5:49 amJust a quick note that I accidentally deleted the "gaslighting" thread :S.
I wrongly pressed "enter" when writing a post there, then went to "delete" that post to write the actual one, and instead deleted the thread.
Sorry guys, and sorry to everyone who contributed there, it was a true dumbass blunder.
It may be possible to recover it, but considering there's now an extended article + lesson, and that the contributors were credited there, it may be more work than it's worth it.
Anyway, what I wanted to write was:
Thank you @maverick for your last post in that thread.
It was so good that I ended up including it in both the article and the lesson (word for word, so your post wasn't "effort in vain").And thank you again at Bel as well for kicking off that thread and for providing the backbone of the article/lesson.

Lucio, Thank You for recognizing the contribution, it was on my mind for a while and I was happy to share and add to the Topic, but didn't think it would be Main article worthy, seeing it there was serendipitous to me and will help others recognize gaslighting.
The thread was a great idea and what happened to the thread is a bummer, but I think the article has everything that was on the thread, I don't think we lost anything much.In case it is needed again, perhaps the other contributors and I can upload it again if there is a local backup.
Thank You
Mav

One of the things I wrote, is on the article, the other part was about a cult, which uses dubious techniques to brainwash their members, and I had noted how Brainwashing and Gaslighting are similar, perhaps when gaslighting a number of people it could be called Brainwashing. The technique was surprising simple it assumes everyone has "bad programming" in them, and hence people must be rid of the "bad programming" and then molded, usually molded in a way beneficial to the mastermind of the cult.
