Getting irritated by illegitimate tasking

Hello everyone,

tasking is central to power dynamics. Here is my journey regarding illegitimate tasking (from subordinate without power protection nor warranted or equals without power protection nor warranted):

  1. I was not noticing it
  2. I noticed it
  3. I cannot help but notice it
  4. I notice it and it irritates me

To me, now it feels like slight disrespect now, so it's annoying. So I feel like I have to push back or deflect it now. It does feel slightly abusive and disempowering. Especially since now I know I'm not going to stay there so I have no interest of playing small AND I have much more self-respect.

In my field, since people are always subjected to power, illegitimate tasking is a form of taking back their freedom/agency at the expense of less power-aware people as I was before.

However, it can be also just a mean to take power over someone.

I understand that sometimes it's faster to say: "look with the patient this and this" rather than "can you look with the patient this and this", however now it does feel irritating.
