- Use existing tools, don't custom-do stuff, keep it simple: as a general business approach, keep things simple. There are tools for delivering content, and often they have a team of people taking care of the development. Sure you can do more fancy stuff with custom-made code, but until you're an organization with your own team managing those projects, keep it simple

If you need a developer to start out, you're already over-complicating things, and potentially even creating future issues with the custom code.
Just get a good theme / course deliver system that works out of the box, and go with that (saves a lot of money, time, and hustle).
And here's hoping that this above advice is nonsense and doesn't apply. So, I actually went this route (or at least tried to go this route).
I hired a developer so they could present me with the best options for a good theme / course delivery system so I wouldn't have to track them all down.
Then, picked the one I felt was closest to TPM's since I'm familiar with that setup from working on / contributing to Business University.
Once that theme was installed, no custom code was needed. I opted to go for the custom code to improve the presentation of the course (we improved the formatting from its poor default text settings).
And that's all we did.
By the end, we'd only added maybe a few more plugins for things like adding a ToC for each lesson, giving new enrollees a payment plan option, and so on.
However, it seems like Lucio is referring to starting out with a bigger existing course platform like Teachable or Kajabi.
The only issue is that most of those platforms cater to courses that are mostly video and mine is text-based.
Google's search results aren't providing very relevant options/alternatives at the moment:
I asked for course hosting platforms for written courses. Instead, it showed me everything. And the top results are irrelevant.
I think the closest would probably be LearnPress, Learndash, and LifterLMS because I think they might have the capabilities for writing text, uploading images, and embedding YouTube videos similar to PU.
Personally, I eventually went with Tutor LMS Pro, a similar platform that's even more cost-effective (they have a free plan to start out) and compatible with my website theme, Divi.
If anyone has any more ideas they'd like to share, feel free.

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on September 20, 2023, 2:22 pmHmm sounds like the approach is good then.
I may have gotten the wrong impression when I saw the developer's work (that seemed important and relatively large).
The customization of titles and texts should be simple stuff done at the theme and/or LMS level.
And anything else, I'd skip it for the beginning.
OFF-TOPIC
Also, I would already think about when/how to add videos.
Most people aren't too much into readin, and long texts may lead to higher refund rates.
Just something for you to think about.

wish I could help but it's outside my scope of knowledge. If I hear anything about such system, I'll make sure to let you know.
