Handling aggressive, open Attacks

Hi There

I don't really know if this is the right categorie for my very generall Question. If its in the wrong section, feel free to shift.

My Question:

How do you handle direct, aggressive, open Attacks on you? For example like on Social Media.

I made a comment on Social Media and someone rudely attacked me with " I bet you wish your hairline was recent you mupped". Even though I couldn't bother to defend myself and reply against an obvious nobody, it still makes me boil a little inside and I feel my Ego wants to strike back and put him in his place. Even when I let it slide, in the next moment I think everyone can see this person disrespecting me heavily and opelny and yet I don't do anything about it. Is there something wrong with me for feeling this way? How do you handle those obvious disrespect?

Im Only at 17% in the Course. Maybe this will be explained latter, I don't know. And I hope this question is justified here in this Forum, but to me personally, it's important.

Kind regards and happy holidays!

Hello Luli.

Personally when someone insulted me on social media, I would do 2 things:

  • Either I let them deal with their shit (keep your grenade technique): "man you seem angry, how about getting some help/sleep  ;) " and not replying to them anymore regardless of what they say.
  • Or I simply don't reply since I have more things to do and replying to them could drag my mood down even more.

It also depends on your social media presence, but since Im not one I rather not go into many details. Still as you may know depending on your social media presence a wrong response (and sometimes just responding) can make you lose status.

Overall I would say that the core of the matter is to think if it's worthy of responding, be it for emotional regulation or because you use social media for work.

Personally I don't comment on social media because how the toxicity can affect ones mood, but that's only personal preference.

That's what I think about it.

Cheers.

P.S:

The power dynamics section is usually reserved for strategies regarding power moves and other information related to them.

Self defense and stuff related to socialisation usually goes in social life if I'm correct.

You can always experiment.

There isn't always a clear winner of "what's best" because a lot of stuff is inconsequential.

So sometimes a good approach is "whatever you feel better with".
