High-power nice guy: when nice guys make women swoon
Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on November 15, 2020, 10:23 pmI love this whole scene:

Greg: So what got you into carpentry
Kevin: Carpentry? (exhales) notice the effect of exhaling, it's quick and subtle, but it's a big power move. As if to say "that was a bit of a dumb question" and sets the scene for his coming covert one-up
I guess I'd have to say Jesus. He was a carpenter, and I just figured that if you gonna follow in someone's footstep (slows down) who better than Christ (stares at Greg, lets the silence and eye contact pile up social pressure)Kevin blows Greg out of the water in spite he seems to go overboard with his "good guy" behavior.
But it's high-status nice. And the status differential crushes Greg.
He also (unwittingly) one-ups Greg.
It's covered one-up because he presents himself with (fake?) modesty -plus with well-placed brags-.
He is a follower, he says, he was following.
But he was following Jesus, which frames him as a man of high ethics and moral standards. The way he delivers it is overall warm, but very high power.
His last words "who better than Christ", together with the delivery, are golden. He seeks to pull Greg up, which naturally makes him a good-spirited value-giving leader, but that also frames him as "above" Greg (and you now women prefer higher status men).
Of course it's a comedy, so everything is exaggerated.
But it's a good example of a high-status "nice guy" who'd make women swoon.
