How to build trust in relationships
Hello TPM community,
trust is a very valuable social commodity. I personally consider it the most valuable social commodity. Hard to build, easy to destroy.
A definition is:
Confidence in or dependence on a person.
Trust is what we also close to what we call “social capital”. So without trust there is no collaboration. If we don’t have confidence in a person why would we deal with this person?
So the ability to building trust is paramount to collaboration, status, social exchange, etc.
I learned recently from a wise man:
Respect is the foundation of trust
So we go down one layer. A definition of respect is:
It is the process of honoring someone by exhibiting care, concern, or consideration for their needs or feelings
So by showing we care the person feels safe and is confident in us that they will gain (or not lose) from the social exchange somehow. Then they trust us then we can have a social exchange. In that order.
