How to Give Solid Compliments? Case Study by Lucio

I wanted to write about this a few days ago.
I think Lucio showed how to give solid compliments in the thread relating to Increasing Engagement and Contribution.

I need to preface this saying that I personally see the forum functioning quite well so far.

It's generating good strategies, advancing power dynamics knowledge, and even functioning as an advanced self-development tool -plus the "social function" you mentioned.

And it does so at a pace that I can control and read.
More threads than this, I'd struggle to keep up -and much of that time would come away from other areas of improving the rest of the website-.

I wouldn't call this group of third people, beginner or advanced.
Rather they contribute useful perspectives but probably don't post as often.
I thought that this is a potential segment of users, which could potentially add to the crowdsourcing nature of the forum.

True, there is a large "in-between".

Yet, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I still prefer 1% of that upper layer, to 50% of that middle of the road.
That is the real differentiator / USP I see here.

For volume, there is Reddit "social skills", "seduction", "48 laws of power", or StackExchange.

For quality... You know where ?

First, Lucio paints the context of the forum functioning quite well.
This indirectly compliments the active contributors on the forum.

Then, he goes on to talk about how the current environment is to his liking, which also raises the value of the active contributors on the forum.
This suggests that we post high-quality content without spamming.

The last ingroup-outgroup compliment was a solid icing on the cake.

at the risk of sounding like a broken record

He has been consistently valuing the contributions on the forum.

I still prefer 1% of that upper layer, to 50% of that middle of the road.

He enjoys the interactions with the current most active contributors.

That is the real differentiator / USP I see here.

Framing the current, active discussions as the real deal on the forum.

For volume, there is Reddit "social skills", "seduction", "48 laws of power", or StackExchange.

For quality... You know where ?

Talking about the competition and suggest quality without directly saying it.
So we would arrive at my own conclusion and feel good about being on this forum.

Ehehe good analysis, Matthew :).

It's all things that I truly think and believe of course, and expressing things in a way that is inclusive and uplifting is a very important element of (advanced) social skills.

No doubt, that's why I am still on this forum. : )
When things are actually high-quality, uncovering the persuasion techniques can even make the community feel even better.
Because I feel it is a genuine expression, and the person spent the time to write it to express himself for the community.

Only when it is manipulative, then discovering and uncovering the agenda will have negative effects.
