How to stop a YouTube addiction (the easy way)

Hello TPM community,

I talked about addictions, namely YouTube addictions. I finally beat mine, so it's also the opportunity to share a success with you.

If you feel you're spending more time on YouTube that you'd like. This is what I did:

  1. Log in your Youtube.com account.
  2. Click on the upper right icon with your name on it (your profile).
  3. Click on "Your Data on Youtube"
  4. Go to "Youtube controls"
  5. Turn off "Youtube watch history"
  6. Take back control of your time :)

It worked for me as now the brain does not have an endless supply of dopamine candies that are just at the tip of the finger. Way easier to control Youtube.

Cheers.

Small-seeming tip, but very useful.

Also super useful to avoid groupthink.

I once met a guy and he'd do that every once in a while just to get exposed to different people and ideas.

And also good to overcome a tendency for some people to "watch what they found most unnerving/disturbing".
They start with one, then the algorithm serves them more... And then you're not only wasting time, but even poisoning your own mood.

100%, with the red pill stuff, the algorithm ended feeding me only misogynistic stuff. It was one of the motivation to turn the feed off.
