How virtue signaling can help the world
One study reveals that takers go green to be seen.
They prefer luxurious products over green products when their decisions are private, but shift to green products when their decisions are public.
The goal there is to earn status for protecting the environment -a form of "virtue signaling-.
Of course, the premise here is that "green products" actually help the environment and that purchasing those products has any meaningful impact -both of which are far from certain. I'm not convinced at all, for example, that the gree-touted renewables are any better than nuclear energy-.
