Interesting article on trend in society as cities grow

I don't see this as inevitable. Rats won't think their way out of a set of wicked problems.
However it remains to be seen if humanity WILL evolve past this. We haven't done it yet.
There s some pretty obvious parallels today. Social Media addicted people who can't relate in person, sigma males, cat ladies, etc
Remote working was hopeful but then most corporates seem to be demanding 2 days in office

I do think there are interesting parallels but the rat analogy is a bit extreme like you advised.
There could be indeed a subset of people who don't "expand" their lives.
