Leadership capital
Quote from John Freeman on January 17, 2024, 9:56 pmHello TPM community,
Leadership capital is a key concept in leadership. I understand it today and feel like a door opened in my mind.
here is an explanation from Jocko Willink, the best expert in leadership in my eyes. I'm actually doing his training now. I'll hopefully post about it soon.
Enjoy!

Interesting to note that in leadership as well, to be powerful you gotta go in the spiritual realm as well (talking about spirit as in mind not as in magic).
Jocko: You have to treat it like gold (leadership capital). It's a real thing.
Yep, sometimes things that are real are not seen but are felt.

I still totally agree that doing your best is a healthier mindset than extreme ownership. Now I understand what context it is made for: combat. And a hospital is very much like a battlefield: with the wounded, the ranks, etc. So I appreciate better his philosophy. I now understand these are ideas that were battle-tested. It does not get any better than this. There is BS military stuff (to sell books, etc.) and there is the real military stuff. This is it. Extreme ownership is a dumbed-down version of his ideas. This guy is a leadership genius.

Quote from John Freeman on January 17, 2024, 10:24 pmI now understood what happened in the previous job at the large university hospital.
The leaders were in the red regarding their leadership capital. No goodwill nowhere to be found because: no trust, no respect, no influence, no listening. So no leadership capital.
Like at my job, they overspend their leadership capital and build up little. So they cannot influence people enough to work at the highest level.
And that's what happened to me as a new leader: I was overspending my leadership capital. Got it now. I won't forget that mistake. (could go in "my leadership mistakes" as well).
