Leadership values in a team
Quote from John Freeman on December 12, 2023, 1:02 pmHello TPM community,
I got a great feed-back from a nurse leader, he told me about the values he does his best to embody. He has 3 axes and has values for each ones: teammate, team, patient. These values come from above him and he reflected on them and added these. I think that is what is limiting our team performance in my department: values/vision are lacking. I will try to influence them to do so.
These are the values I came up with, they are the ones I am committing to, not the ones I expect of course:
I'm aware that not being from healthcare but if you guys feel like giving me a feed-back on this, feel free to do so:
- Patient: safety, transparency, benevolence
- Teammate: respect, benevolence, support, purpose/meaning, autonomy
- Team: excellence, solidarity, performance, transparency, kaizen (inspiration today from Lucio)
Cheers.

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on December 13, 2023, 12:01 pmI think values to aspir towards can work great.
And those can all work well, John.
I'd personally pick some more "dynamic" and energetic.
Somewhat stronger and more persuasive too.
Potentially, even "higher power", just to avoid sounding potentially too "feminine" to more alpha-types.Ie.:
"benevolence", may be turned into something more active.
And I'd cut "purpose/meaning".
Feels too self-helpy to me.
Plus, that should be a consequence, never a final goal.Just my 2Â cents.

Quote from John Freeman on December 13, 2023, 1:02 pmThank you Lucio, it makes sense to me.
I'll think about it and I'll definitely review them for a 3rd version.
Version 2.0:
- Patient: safety, transparency
- Teammate: respect, support, autonomy
- Team: excellence, solidarity, performance, transparency, kaizen
It's also more streamlined for the moment.
