Mask wearing morphed into a tool for kindness, respect, and deference

I was thinking to make a quick forum entry on the mask-wearing topic.

In a previous post we said it was a tool of compliance and one-upping.

Now as Covid becomes less of a health risk and as mask mandates are being over-ruled, it's becoming instead a tool of choice to show kindness, respect, and deference.
(edit: actually, it's semi-choice. The moment that a few are wearing it, then pressure is on for others to do the same, lest they come across as "not as respectful as those others who wear it)

Today I saw this guy on a video call (:s) and thought that I couldn't possibly find a better example:

From a health and rational perspective, you may be forgiven if you find this laughable or amusing

I noticed from his screen there were 3 people in that call.
2 wearing a mask, and one not.

If I had to bet, I'd be that the one not wearing a mask was either the most senior, or the boss.

And the other 2 were wearing it as a sign of respect and deference.

If that's not the case, then the one not wearing was either higher in dark triad traits, in social power (and better able to withstand social pressure), or right-wing.

All in all, it's an interesting tool to observe and can allow to infer quite a bit about people.
