My Journey to Power

On my side the more I read about your course, the more I'm interested. You got me at "become the superconnector of your network".

As a potential customer, here is my perspective on networking: it's been so oversold and overhyped that when I see the word I am skeptic from the beginning.

So it's the proper word... or so I'm wondering right now. Well, I don't know if I'm the typical customer (I don't know who's your typical customer) but this is how I currently think.

For me "Networking" sounds very broad and I don't see when reading the word what it's going to do for me. For instance: "power dynamics" I get it. "Social dynamics" I get it. Now as I want to evolve my social life I'm getting more and more interested in networking but dislike the word (even though it's the proper one). So if I may give you some feed-back: this "high-status social life" speaks more to me. I can see what it looks like. Especially having seen his videos but still it's more descriptive for me.

So personally among all your titles, the one that appeals the more to me is the one I talked about. In my mind your customers are either:

  1. People who want to network professionally
  2. People who want to network for better social circle (me)

So I'm thinking that maybe it would make sense to structure it like that. I personally don't care about creating a deep connection with anyone (that's just me) as it's not my personal issue. To me it's a subset of networking socially. I might be wrong, it's your field.

"The science and art of managing your new network" and the "deep connection" could be submodules of other ones.

"Warmup: the power of the tribe": to me here I don't understand what the content is going to be and it does not sound so appealing to me. "Build your tribe" would be sexier to me. Or "Build your high-status tribe" would appeal more to me.

It could also be structured chronologically: from meeting to managing the network.

Some suggestions from my POV as an example of structure (don't know the course) that would be sexy to me (makes me want to know more):

  1. Build your (high-status) tribe
  2. Become the superconnector of your tribe
  3. Manage your (high-status) tribe

Or structured around "superconnector"

  1. What is a superconnector
  2. Become the superconnector with your friends
  3. Become the superconnector at work
  4. How to meet women through your network/tribe
  5. Manage your (high-status) tribe

So to me, keywords such as "superconnector", "tribe", "high status" are sexier than "network"

I hope this makes sense to you.

Reading the recent review about "the psychology of social status" by Lucio, I identify with something (several actually).

I'm typically the guy who invested a lot in his professional life and was dumbfounded to not see this (relative if I'm being honest) success in the other areas of life. Whereas I could see people who had not even a job having a better social or love life. It's totally logical of course. Food for thoughts.

The challenge is that it's difficult to invest a lot of energy in these areas with my profession. But still I see now that it's about time management. Getting a car will save me time. I also don't want to work part time at this stage of my life. Still, food for thoughts. You get what you put in.

Thank you for the feedback, John!

It's very helpful to know what people are looking for and I suspected it was probably going to be the high-status social life/better social circle that draws the most people in.

This is the current course curriculum for Networking Mastery (and it'll update as I continue to upgrade and expand the material):

Social life is by far the most underdeveloped part of the course and if that's the main interest for you, I'd definitely hold off on joining NM for now until we expand that portion of the content.

Hopefully, the titles of the other modules give you a better idea of the strategic applications for networking though (some people use it to get a better job, more clients, higher-status friends, or a generally higher-status social lifestyle).

Hello Ali,

cool if that’s helpful!

With that info, here is what I think:

Probably in the US people are looking to become millionaires, billionaires or celebrities. In Europe it’s not what most people are after from my observation. They’re looking to have a good life. Money is important but not as important as in the US from my experience living 1 year over there. There is a big difference between rich and poor in the US. So this will appeal more to people where it’s the case though (most of the planet though). Also today I don’t know how many people know that they’re very unlikely to become millionaires or billionaires. It feels to me like more and more people are aware of it. That’s how I see it.

Foundations: I personally would change it to a more explicit title.

I don’t have further opinions I understand and find the rest great.

Defending from tasking from women I don’t know

Today at the gym I was recovering in between exercises and waiting to use an unused machine. 2 girls came and were going to use the machine.

Me: I’m going to use the machine but we can share (collaborative)

Leader woman: we are 2 so it won’t work. We’re going to train in the woman’s room in between. Could you manage to tell us when you’re done? (French expression, tasking).

Me: well (bridging, avoid a hard “no”), I let you come and see later (if I’m done, counter-tasking).

They do as I say and go to the woman’s room (closed).

Reality check: it’s not because you’re a pretty young woman that you will get all that you want.

Actually, it's a module teaching how to connect with the wealthy, affluent, and influential (since it's not a money-making course).

I wanted to keep the titles as short and succinct as possible, but maybe I'll update it to "Connecting with Millionaires, Billionaires and Celebrities."

Also, on the tasking, I don't think a counter-task was necessary, a no probably would've sufficed.

Here's how I probably would've answered it:

Leading Woman: "We are two so it won’t work. We’re going to train in the woman’s room in between. Could you manage to tell us when you’re done (tasking)?

You: "Well, I'm going to be busy [with my other workouts], but I'll be done in about ten minutes (lets them know when you'l be done and leaves it up to them to come check after that time frame if they want to)."

I think this response would come across less gamey/power move-y.

You're right, thank you!

Something else I understood with my French friends is that French culture is way more confrontational than Swiss culture.

So for them it's normal to be more conflictual. They don't see it as negatively as we see it in the Swiss culture where social harmony and consensus is the norm.

Good news: I got my drive back.

It’s a mix of mindset, travel in England (travel is always healing for me), subliminals and reciting my story.

I feel I’m back in the fight. As Lucio said: « fuck happiness » (I’m not a prepubscent girl indeed hahaha).

I now remember why I succeeded in the past when it was very challenging: I was obsessed with my goals. I had a plan A and was giving 100% in it. I was going after it like my life depended on it.

Leadership success: after 2.5 years and 16 games, we finished the game King's dilemma with 6 of my friends (legacy game: continuous history in several games).

Plenty of punches during this time but I led the group to the game's completion. I ended up 2nd amongst 5.

What helped me (even though I was not going to give up) was the story (Kavalier if I'm not mistaken) where the leader did not defend the group (mug incident) and Lucio said that a leader does not give up on the group. The leader pushes through the challenges to bring the group to safe shores. So this idea was helpful to me. So thanks to both!

This was quite an adventure, I highly recommend this game. The people who made it are mental! I'm always amazed by the minds who make games that take you in another World.
