No more ads on ThePowerMoves.com: why I decided so
Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on May 26, 2020, 10:31 amAdsense had this cool option that let you choose the "ad fill rate", such as, how often to show an ad to show for each available impression.
That way, you didn't have to overburden the website.
On ThePowerMoves ads were set at 30% fill rate, and only on the book reviews section. However, Google removed the option to set a cap on ad delivery.
Such as, it was either going to be 100%... Or zero.Ad revenue didn't hurt, of course.
But it wasn't the biggest contributor. It had fallen below 10% of total income for a while, so scrapping it wasn't going to break the bank.Plus, there was a few things that bothered me about it:
- Ads make a website seem lower quality
- I had to keep one plugin on just for ad serving
- Often when no ad was being served (because of the capping), a blank space appeared (ugly)
- On some my negative reviews on those whom I consider snake oil salesmen, similar snake oil ads were going to appear, possibly duping readers to click on them before they had the change of reading my review
So when I got news that Google was removing the ad-capping feature, I finally decided to remove ads completely.
