Poker Dealers trying to act dominant

#1

I frequent this casino a lot to play poker. I also usually go early in the mornings.

Today, there were two tables. Each table has 9 seats.

First table had 9 full players. My table, where I was seated, had 4 players. Two players leave the first table and now two seats are open.

I don't wanna play poker with 4 players so I ask for a transfer to my current dealer at the table.

The dealer at the table is a girl, so she asks another guy co-worker friend.

Girl Dealer (At my table): "He wants to transfer"

Guy Dealer (Walking Around): "Later, later" (Dismissively while walking away)

I can also tell these two dealers particularly talk to each other a lot and I also see them flirting here and there.

So this guy is doing a bit of 'dominant behavior' to show off in front of his girl dealer.

This shit annoys me cause I've seen dealers do this while walking around casually. Granted it's like 6-7AM, but doesn't matter.

Me: Why?

Guy Dealer: *Being annoyed* Because the tables should be balanced so when there's new people I'll move you.

Me: *Get's up* Okay then I'll wait. (I stop playing poker right then and there, leave the table)

I comeback about 15 minutes later and see that people from the first table left and they combine the two tables.

As I'm walking back, the same guy dealer is walking towards me and points at the table.

While he's doing that, I ignore him and start talking to a regular player who I haven't seen in a bit and play.

#2. This is another time. Same venue, different guy dealer.

There's two tables in the morning. My table is 9 players deep. The other poker table has 1 seat open.

I ask for a transfer.

Dealer walking by: Later later (This seems like a auto response they do. It's annoying as fuck)

Me: No. NOW.

Dealer: No later because we have to get a new player that has to replace you at this table.

(This reasoning doesn't make sense because there's 1 seat open at that other table. And if I leave this table, it'll be the same seat remaining).

I pause briefly and kind of accepted it. But during this lull, a new player happens to show up and I end up transferring.

This annoyed me to no end as I'm sitting there. How could I have handled this better and how should I handle it better when someone 'casually and dismissively' says something like 'later later' to your request.

Hey jlee830,

Look, I'm aware this can come across very much the wrong way, especially in writing.

But sometimes it's a risk you gotta take, I think.
And if a friend of mine or anyone I care about would share this story, my first question would be "how come you go to the poker table that early".
And the goal of that question would be to find out if it's like simple a passion and something one enjoys, or if there may be bigger things I'd like to talk about rather than just the snarky reactions.

Now that out of the way, I don't have much experience on that environment but in the end... Many situations are similar no matter the place. The dialogue without full words though doesn't help me much.

Just reading though my first thought was that what was missing was:

  • "grab attention" first such as you never open with a big ask, but you open with something that catches attention first -ie.: "hi, excuse me, quick question... "-.Especially true when someone is walking around or doing something because the inertia makes it easier to move on and ignore than to properly listen and address.
  • Provide a reason, such as "I'd like a transfer because this table is getting smaller and I prefer playing with larger groups" or whatever
