Power dynamics in friendships

Hello Lucio,

that would be very helpful for me (and others I believe) if you could write a post (I haven't found any) on power dynamics in friendships. As I wrote in the feedback thread, it's something I'm still struggling with.

Thanks a lot!

Yes, definitely.

And to add one more note on that, power dynamics in groups.
Especially in new forming group, and how to acquire status. That would also be helpful to many, and add one more element to an empowered life: the ability to enter new groups, and quickly have good status within them.

Exactly! I think that could be the name of the module: power dynamics in groups. With a chapter on friendships maybe. I'm looking forward to it!

Here is an example:

Friend 1 (not-close, not acquaintance)

I invited him to eat at my place, I bought him drinks, I introduced him to people. He interrupted me while I was talking to a girl. So basically: value-taker, nice guy but value taker.

Friend 2 (I consider him a good friend)

when I call him he's not always available. I told him I estimate him a lot. I would like him to be a good/close friend. I sent him a text and called him twice in the past 2 days (I got worried he was in trouble as he was not answering). He calls me and tells me: "I'm going to X place (the same place I invited him and we went a few times together and I invited him there at the same time tonight from 7PM) at 6PM with Y (one of his colleague-friend). You can join us in 30 min". So basically, he does not want to be part of my social circle, he wants me to be part of his. I'm saying this because I invited 3 other friends that are going to meet me there. So now it feel like I'm joining him whereas I invited him to join US in the first place.

So in both cases, I'm like: "these guys are cool, I'm going to be generous and friendly with them and I end up feeling like it's not 50/50".

I'm in the process of building a social circle with 5 close friends that corresponds to my criteria: positivity, honesty, generosity, integrity, good self-esteem, good mental health, self-aware, respectful, open-minded, loyal, authentic, trustworthy. This is one of my yearly goals.
