Quote on Power Dynamics
Quote from John Freeman on July 29, 2020, 6:34 pmHello,
here is a quote I found during my readings. It comes from the Talmud. It's not about the religion, it's about the wisdom. It's about 2000 years old book.
"Who is mighty? Those who can control their own emotions and make of an enemy a friend." - Talmud

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on August 1, 2020, 5:06 pmSuch a powerful quote, love it!
And true.
Too many wars have been fought with lose-lose results because people missed the chance of turning an enemy into a friend (not just literal wars, by the way, buy friendships and relationships as well).

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on September 2, 2020, 3:46 pmYes you are :D.
To me, understanding the Godfather is about becoming a man, and in the wider sense. In the sense of understanding crucial life concepts such as responsibility -first and foremost-, leadership, relationships, friendships, life strategies, difficult choices in terms of priorities -allegiance to your life goals, or to your relationships?- as well as power dynamics.
I saw it first as a kid and thought "oh man, this was it? Good, but a really over-hyped".
But of course, I didn't really get it back then.Back then I very much preferred "The Shawshank Redemption".
If you go on IMDB, the two have been head to head for years:
And for good reasons. "The Shawshank Redemption" is a GREAT movie.
But it just ain't real life. It's the Hollywood type of movie. It has the stereotypical bad characters designed to be hated, and the obviously good guys designed to be loved. And the good ones inevitably win.
Plus all the memorable and "suspense" scenes designed to move people and capture their attention but that are just SO unlikely to happen in real life. But The Godfather, The Godfather is real.

Quote from John Freeman on September 2, 2020, 7:01 pmI agree with you. Had I not studied Power University, it would have been a completely different movie. Actually I watched it a few years ago and thought it was a great movie but did not perceive all these layers. Through the eyes of power dynamics and the rise to power, the relationships, the bonds, loyalty, etc. it is a very deep movie about human nature.

Quote from Stef on September 14, 2020, 12:49 amgreat quote about hate,
as a general rule I believe that all too extreme emotions tend to be counterproductive for a clear analysis of the situation, as the mood will distort and bias your mental processes, or even hijack your mental cycles.

From here.
Aha. By playing the rest of the video: I've been had by the quote. Actually Franzese thinks it's not true. I'm sharing my mistake with you so you can learn as I did.
But this one:
"You catch more flies with honey than you catch with vinegar".

This one cuts deep. Coming from this guy. That's a power move in a quote.
