Red flag: grandstanding with social climbing (DC over Khabib)

Same person from TPM's latest short.

Notice how he frames the whole event.

Especially how:

  • HE comes out of it
  • Khabib comes out of it

Paraphrasing:

DC: Khabb is yelling, ahhhh (<--- already a not so positive impersonification of a supposed friend)
And this other guy was in between, nad Khabib says "this is my Capitan, let me talk to him" (<--- Khabib supposedly called him "my captain" and supposedly told the rest of the entourage to allow him to go to DC)
I say...

Call me a cynic who's jumping to conclusions, but...

I'd personally bet this is NOT what truly happened.

I've seen personalities like this in real life, and all their stories are spun to make them look good (to your detriment).

The whole frame is:

  • Khabib is out of control, I was the voice of reason
  • Khabib sought ME in his worst time for emotional ground and rational thinking
  • I'm the coach, he's the coachee
  • He fucked up, I showed it to him
  • I ultimately granted him absolution saying "it's all good"

Interesting also to see how some guys miss the red flags:

Not really.

They may be close, but it's definitely not a good win-win relationship.

A good friend doesn't grandstand on you.

And he doesn't use you to frame himself as the savior (and above you).

Thank you! It is a very interesting case as these are situations we find ourselves into: "I like this guy and we're having fun but he's playing power moves on me, how should I react?".

They may be close, but it's definitely not a good win-win relationship.

Very subtle but important difference I think.

And he doesn't use you to frame himself as the savior (and above you).

Definitely not. Quite nasty all in all. Makes Khabib like he's out of control (more an animal than a person with the yell) so very demeaning.
