Sol Introduction

Having reached over 80% completion of PU, I think it’s about time that I get involved here.

So, greetings from the UK!

I landed here amidst my journey to improve social effectiveness whilst searching for resources on the topic. Like many here I’ve been through the usual. Think Dale Carnegie, Robert Greene, Charisma related videos on YT etc. before finding this site.

And whilst the resources I used were helpful in different ways, I still felt I was missing something foundational. Namely, what to do when someone doesn’t “play by the rules” e.g. trying to undermine you, cut you out of a group etc.

Most guides don't even mention the possibility that people won't always reciprocate kindness and other pro-social behaviour, and when they do, the advice rarely expands past just staying calm.

“Okay I’m calm, now what?”

Fortunately, this site exists.

The best thing I can say about this site is that when I found it, I ended up reading non-stop for almost all of 2 days. It seemed to make so much sense.

Probably because the examples are based on the real situations that actually happen day to day that add up over time to cement our position in whatever environment we are in at the time.

Along with the exact responses and mindsets that one could use to deal with them. As opposed to something like the 48 laws where the stories are too abstract/far removed from daily life to truly be actionable, especially for a beginner. Good book, very tough to implement (and easy to misinterpret).

It honestly seemed a little too good to be true at first, so I googled around about the course to see what came up and came across a couple of the infamous character assassination posts cited in PU essentially stating: “This guy talks about power and manipulation, which are bad, so he’s bad, so steer clear of him and this site >:(((”

Now, this could have put me off, however I was not fully convinced with this line of reasoning since it would also imply that learning physical self-defence is a negative thing, which isn't something I (and probably most people) would agree with.

And of course, there’s lots written here on the site about why learning “dark” psychology doesn’t make someone bad (and why not knowing it doesn’t make them good), it’s simply another tool at one’s disposal. And that it's down to the individual to use it for good.

Plus, I saw how active Lucio is in engaging with the community, and in the relatively few disputes I did see on the forum, he seemed to handle them fairly, professionally and honestly from what I could see. So with all this in mind I decided to take the leap into the course, and I’m glad I did.

Overall it’s been great so far and I’m looking forward to mastering this stuff over the long term. And now that I have a grasp on the basics (As far as I can tell), I'm excited to throw around some ideas here. My primary focus for now is on frame control and leadership skills.

And of course, in the spirit of win-win collaboration - I’ll be looking to utilise my understanding and experiences with the knowledge I learn here to hopefully contribute and discuss some ideas around some of you guys’ situations/threads for mutual learning.

Once again, super grateful that a site like this exists and that there are people who are so dedicated to learning about this sort of thing.

Let’s do it!

Great intro and welcome here Sol!

I had the exact same experience you had with much of self-help -the good one, at least-.

Nice, and sounds true... But now what?

That's one of the main reasons why I eventually started TPM :)

Glad it was one of those occasions when I kept it "professional".

I'm afraid some other times, I may have failed to do that :).

Half jokes aside, thank you for sharing this!

It's very helpful and a powerful reminder for a guy who sometimes goes with gut answers and little to no "professionalism" that PR does matter.

One person may only read one of your exchanges.

And if it's the exchange where you're not professional, or when you answer a bit too aggressively to a poor message, that will color one person's view not just of you, but of the business.

Strategically, that is one of the reasons why I want to move TPM further away from me, BTW.

So that my mistakes or stronger takes and opinions won't affect TPM.

Welcome again, and looking forward to reading more from you!
