Symbols of power

The Eagle:

I want to tell you why I like the eagle as a symbol of social power (taking into account that you choose it as a symbol in the blog for the social power section).

The eagle is powerful and strong, with intimidating gaze, and it can be dangerous, but it also is royal, smooth, swift and precise in  his behavior. There is surely something majestic about it.

to me one wing of the bird of prey symbolize freedom, the other power, you need both if your are planing to soar high, and you also need the air around you (the support of your allies and people who love you)

and also flyin means the capacity of going "meta" and seeing thing from a higher perspective (having a meta-plan) or a grand strategy.

Plus Eagles looks cool!

Wow, awesome analysis, Stef!

If I had ever planned on changing the logo, it will definitely still be an eagle after reading (and nodding my way through) your post!

Plus, yeah, they do look cool, don't they :).
If we had to apply a style of dominance to the eagle, it would probably be the "cold-blooded" one. They chillingly look right through you.

Yes! they are closer to the cold blooded style, maybe just a little less than reptiles (now that I remember some says birds evolved from reptiles), there is a nice phrase from Schopenhauer that came to my mind:

(I would avoid the generalizations, as we always try to do here in Power Moves, yet I do get were he was aiming with this gedanken)

"To speak angrily to a person, to show your hatred by what you say or by the way you look, is an unnecessary proceeding—dangerous, foolish, ridiculous, and vulgar.

Anger and hatred should never be shown otherwise than in what you do; and feelings will be all the more effective in action, in so far as you avoid the exhibition of them in any other way.  It is only cold-blooded animals whose bite is poisonous."

"Yes, birds are reptiles, but let me explain a bit. Biologists use two types of classification systems, the Linnaean and the phylogenetic. The Linnaean system was developed by Carolus Linnaeus in the 1730's. In the Linnaean system, organisms are grouped by characteristics regardless of their ancestry. So a reptile is an animal that is ectothermic and has scales, and birds would not be reptiles. In the 1940's, a biologist named Willi Hennig came up with another classification system that he called phylogenetics. In this system, organisms are grouped only by their ancestry, and characteristics are only used to discover the ancestry. So a reptile is any animal descended from the original group called reptiles. Both birds and mammals share ancestors sometimes referred to as reptile-like animals (Reptiliomorpha), but it's not very common for people to talk about mammals as reptiles. The situation is different for birds. Birds are part of the group Diapsida, which also includes all other living reptiles (crocodilians, turtles, tuataras, and squamates (mostly snakes and lizards))."

A bit off-topic.
