The 5 Problem Solving Questions (Personal Power 2)
Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on January 22, 2020, 2:30 pmI stopped reading self-help and I dropped a few average book summaries on self-help.
Why?
Because many of them are not necessary. The books on self-help written by Oprah, and the other celebs most serve their authors -ie.: to add "author" to their name-.
And the ones written by the latest motivational speakers, like Jen Sincero, Mel Robbins or Grant Cardone often rehash known concepts. You don't need more self-help books, you need more time to apply what's been proven to work.
I believe that you only need two books on self-help. One is "Personal Power II", which is actually an audio program. The rest is all about applying.
Self-help works, but takes all your day.
Meditation, training, asking yourself empowering questions, writing down your mistakes and lessons learned, reflecting on your mortality, meeting your soulmate or working on your relationship, writing and working on your goals... These all take time.I am re-listening to Personal Power II.
And I loved these 5 problem-solving questions.
Here they are:The 5 Problem Solving Questions
- What’s great about this (nothing? What COULD be great about it)
Example: Well, 3-5 years ago Tony would have begged to speak to these guys. They just want me and these are movers and shakers and he can make a difference- What’s not perfect yet (presupposing it’s gonna be perfect)
Example: I don’t have enough time for my own personal life- What am I willing to do to make it the way I want it (presupposes you want and can do something)
example: I’m willing to find a way to make these calls cause they deserve an answer and I will change my schedule- What am I willing no longer to do it to make the things the way I want them
example: I’m willing to no longer complain when I set the thing up. And I’m willing to change things so that more people can take care of my things- How can I do what’s necessary to get this job done and enjoy the process
example: you own a Jacuzzi, haven’t been there in a while, go outside, bring the laptop there, bring the phone, get in Jacuzzi and have fun calling guys and make fun of them and with them!

Quote from JP on January 25, 2020, 5:44 amWe could also argue that the majority of the information on the internet is just information that has been parroted and repeated by other people. I would feel confident in saying that ~5% or less, of the data on the internet is actually new information, the rest is parroted, or presented/packaged differently.
If I were to google search "how to lose fat," the only real ways to do it consistently is to undereat your calories, and exercise. That's literally it. Instead of immediately doing a google search for anything, it would probably be good to just apply some critical thinking based on your own existing information in your brain. IMO too many people have the habit of delegating their thinking to other people who are probably just as qualified as they are.
To play devil's advocate though, sometimes just having the same information delivered from a different perspective is exactly what it takes to have a Eureka moment and finally understand things.

Quote from Kellvo on March 12, 2020, 9:01 pmI understand completely. Self-help can become a maze. Oftentimes the best solution is not adding more complexity, but returning to the basics.
Working out? Healthy diet, progressive overload, consistent exercise.
Self-Improvement? Assess self, create plan, slight edge by daily action.
Traumatic experience? Accept it, learn from it, move forward.
Ultimately, it comes down to correct knowledge, creating a plan, and putting in the work.

Quote from Deleted user on April 1, 2020, 8:40 pmI agree with you, very often we need more time to apply our knowledge.
I know from my own experience, many new useful habits and new techniques that I want to include in my life, but there's simply not enough time for this. And, of course, it works in a complex, reading, meditation, affirmations, physical activity, food, water, and so on.
This will be the most effective and fastest way to increase mindfulness and life in general. But to read books on self-development and not to make even small steps in personal growth, this doesn't work in this way.
