There is this mindset popular among gurus and entrepreneurs:
You can only win by reaching out to 1,000 strangers.

Alex: if you get rejected a thousand times, you're no worse off
True, in many ways.
... And in a way, we espouse the exact same principle in SU, calling it "putting the law of large numbers on your side".
On the other hand, most people are missing the true costs in this approach.
The costs are instead there:
- You waste time if you do a lot of spam reach outs
- You self-signal you're not a value giver if everyone refuses you
- You're pushing the costs on others
Even if you find a way to make a million automated reach outs, the costs are on the people you're spamming.
That's why it's crucital to better to first get yourself to a "good enougoh level" and propose something valuable before you play the number's game.
Otherwise, you're just annoying people... And getting little in return, too.
