The Start-up of You: Adapt to the Future, Invest in Yourself, and Transform Your Career by Reid Hoffman and Ben Casnocha

Hi everyone,

I'm suspending judgment on this one until I read it.

But, I loved reading some of the reviews that said this book teaches you how to run your career like a startup.

If I ever get the time this year, I'd love to read this one and see if it might have some good takeaways for Business University.

Not expecting much from an office politics perspective, but I'm intrigued by the idea of applying lessons from Silicon Valley's entrepreneurs to building a career.

Plus, the reviews are nothing to sneeze at either :).

This caught my attention :).
I'm interested in tech startups in Silicon Valley.

I do feel that the "startup" mindset can be applied to a career in these ways:

  • Trying out many different professions, industries, geographies to see what fits
  • "Pivoting" when you see yourself stuck in a dead-end job
  • Finding out something that clicks and then doubling down on that
  • Learn what works for your career quickly and continuously
  • Combining a few skills, knowledge and experience to carve a new career
