Trump complains nobody likes him: when narcissism blinds you to effective social strategies

Trump is a case in which narcissism has both helped him advance, as well as held him back from achieving higher highs (and held him back from doing a better job).

See this video:

Trump: "it's interesting, he's got a very good approval rating, and I like that, it's good. Cause remember, he's working for this administration, he's working with us. And he's got this high approval rating, so why don't I have high approval rating with respect to the virus"

And gain:

Trump: "so it's very curious, a man works for us, with us, Dr. Fauci, and Dr. Birx, both highly thought of, but nobody likes me. It can only be my personality"

Trump's narcissism drives him to be constantly admired and adulated. Plus, there is probably an element of entitlement mentality: Trump feels like he is owed admiration and adulation and, when he doesn't get it, he suffers and gets angry.

Trump narcissism also drives him to frame himself as "best ever". He can't stand he might not be the "best ever", presiding over the "best ever economy", or not being the "best country in the world" in doing whatever it is that matters to him or to the people he wants adulation from.

So he feels he has to hide all problems, and always put on an act of sales and marketing of "best ever".

Now, in truth, there is plenty of biased reporting against Trump, including CNN.
But that shouldn't hide the fact that Trump has given everyone plenty of ammunition for criticism.

His constant drive for appearing the best and sweeping problems behind the curtains of sales and marketing makes him come across as a manipulative, fake liar.
He comes across as a poor leader who's not taking responsibility, and putting his own image above the real interest of the people.
