Why women need The Power Moves: failed game with a high-value guy

A case study:

Her: (laughs)

Her: "Your car is beautiful by the way."

Him: "Thank you, 'ppreciate it."

Her: "Yeeaahh...do you work in tech?"

Him: (laughs uncomfortably) "No, no, no. No."

Her: "What do you do? 'Cuz I work in tech, so..."

Him: "I, I mean...I'm retired, so..."

Her: "Retired..."

Him: "Yeah." (laughs awkwardly again)

Him: "Alright, have a good day."

Her: "Married?"

Him: "Huh?"

Her: "Married?"

Sometimes, it's funny to me when I see videos like this because it's often the man who has to do the work of learning game, pursuing the woman, and hoping for the best.

So, when it's the other way around, it can be a treat to watch those exceptions and make for some interesting case studies.

And, it's because there are these moments that are so rare that I'd argue women need The Power Moves—to be prepared for the exceptions in dating (among other reasons, of course, but for the purposes of this thread, we'll focus on this particular reason in dating).

Most women are attracted to high-status men. But, few women are prepared for how to pull a high-status man when they finally meet one.

And, it can lead to mistakes like this woman's:

  • Trying to ignore the different dynamics: the power is clearly on his side here, so better might've been to simply approach him, introduce yourself, and ask for a bit of his time. Instead, she stays where she is, raises her voice across the gas station, and seemingly hopes that he'll be the one to bridge the gap and approach her (so that she doesn't have to do it) even though he's seemingly uninterested + the likelihood of that is low.
  • Gives a poor compliment: a compliment he probably receives often and surely receives from women interested in his money, it probably would've been better to compliment him on something else. (She unknowingly framed herself as a gold digger and much of the comments section expanded on that frame.)
  • Value-taking social skills: spending the limited time she has with him asking all of the questions she wants answers to ("What do you do?" "Are you married?") rather than giving value to make him actually want to talk with her. (Perhaps a better approach might've been to approach him and ask what made him choose the Lamborghini over Ferrari since that's a "hot debate", opening the door for him to talk about his personal likes and preferences, but also framing herself as an enthusiast who has a genuine appreciation for cars and not just someone who "sees an expensive car and wants to cozy up to the owner").

Now, here's the interesting thing:

She seemed to have driven to the gas station in a Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV. (And, let me tell you, that's no cheap car :).

And yet, many women prefer to date men who are/have more than them, so she may still run into those kinds of men rarely and, therefore, have less experience to be prepared for those cases.

But, where we don't have experience, we have books, blogs, and courses.

Anna Bey has some good content on where women can meet high-status men on a regular, consistent basis (some of which I disagreed with, but much of which I took notes on) and how to navigate in those situations.

But, so far, I haven't seen anything better than PU and the content at The Power Moves.

And, who knows, maybe if this woman had TPM, she could've turned that case around in her favor and pulled her a potentially cool guy at the gas station :).

P.S.:

If anyone knows how to embed Instagram videos, feel free to post in this thread, happy to read.

Edit:

Changed wording.

LOL, good one Ali, I'll get to this back later.

But very first comment before I properly read it all:

Notice the intonation in her first "yeaaah".

It's already rapport-seeking and chasing, and without even saying any specific word.

A better approach there would have been a one-cross comment to increase the odds of staying in the interaction while also asking for his investment.
Even if you can't think of anything great, something like this would have worked a lot better:

I know it's rare for women, but I'm a car enthusiast myself. I dream to get myself one of those soon

Nothing fancy there, but it's already fundamentally different.

Now it'd be up to him to invest more.
And albeit it's such a simple sentence, he may already be interested in her uniqueness, in her drive, or in what other cars she likes.

Soon after, she may have added "though, to be honest, my first choice would be a red Ferrari".
With that, she'd be slightly challenging him instead of chasing.

So, yeah, women also need game.

And albeit you're right that it's rare for women to chase first, still most women need the skills because the beginning is only just that: the very beginning.
Almost any woman will benefit from skills later on in dating (ie.: maintain investment later on in the relationship).

Read the rest, and yes, great analsys, Ali.

It's true she also came across as boorish / not very high class by yelling from the distance, going in so dominant/high-power (high power dating for women isn't too effective as TPM pointed out in several articles/reviews), and asking direct question that demand of him to divulge personal information to a stranger.

OFF-TOPIC

By the way, to reply "I'm retired" is such a boss move (when you showcase obvious signals of "having made it", of course).

I sometimes do something similar replying something like:

  • Oh, I... Just pursue my passion project actually ("just" is the key there so you display high value, without coming across like you wanna power move or brag)
  • I do a lot of things, actually. Write, teach, research, learn... I'm learning right now with you as well
  • Mostly pursue my life mission (slight pause), and chill a lot (laugh, and later instead show that you work a lot and don't really chill all that much)

And when people ask if I'm on vacation:

  • I'm always on holiday / my life is a holiday

All those replies are power moves designed to display high value without overtly bragging, and also to seem mysterious, inviting a slew of follow-up questions that make you, at least momentarily, the object of interest and "prize".
