"you look really pretty" shit test (Mean Girls)
Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on September 23, 2023, 10:00 amThis scene from "Mean Girls" is a "shit test":

Regina: you look really pretty
New girl: thanks
Regina: so you agree
New girl: what?
Regina: (inquisitive) you think you're really pretty
New girl: (lost, displays not-so-high confidence, cracks under social pressure) Oh... I don't know (smiles)Regina is testing the new girl's personal power, confidence, and self-esteem.
A new pretty girl with high confidence and self-esteem would be a major threat to her leadership and popularity.
But the "new girl" fails by showing little confidence, so Regina knows she's not at her level (yet).
And that actually allows the new girl to enter into her circle because she's not as bad a threat to her leadership and popularity.

Quote from John Freeman on September 23, 2023, 8:51 pmWhat about an answer such as:
Well I let others decide or I think we’re all pretty in this group: empowers the group, submissive but still confident.
Well I think I am and I think you are too: collaborative.
Well I think everyone is pretty in their own way: philosopher’s frame.
Well it depends what you mean by pretty: tasking back.
I like the philosopher’s frame.

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on September 24, 2023, 11:36 amHey John, yeah all of those can work.
I'd have done for something even more strategically ego-feeding for her to ensure she'd let you in her group (Machiavellian approach).

Yes you're right, thanks!
That's also what I understood with the group of sports guys. JB was actually the leader of this particular group. I may have created a group and he joined the one I created but in this other one he's the leader. So in some way some of his attacks came from the fact that he felt I challenged his leadership. So it's a much better strategy to stroke the leader's ego, thanks! I'll remember that one.
Maybe something like that based on your feed-back:
Regina:Â (inquisitive)Â you think you're really pretty
New girl: well not as pretty as you that's for sure! But thanks for the compliment! (smile)Or reversed around the "but"
Regina:Â (inquisitive)Â you think you're really pretty
New girl:Â thanks for the compliment but not as pretty as you that's for sure! (smile)
