Your WHY is very personal so make people earn it...unless sharing advances your mission

Hi everyone,

My personal feeling is that your WHY (your life purpose) is very personal.

So, you shouldn't just give it out to anyone, all of the time.

I'd say to keep it close and only once you've assessed someone as having earned it, then feel free to share—just as you would with anything else you feel is personal to you.

However, I believe there is a special exception...and that's when sharing your WHY early and/or openly has the potential to hugely advance your mission.

That's why I shared my story in The Clever Connector and I was met with many warm comments from my readers there.

And, this morning, I decided to take a peek at some of the reviews for The Social Strategist (where I also shared my story) and found this one:

RVA: social currency may be the most valuable form out there

Ali's vulnerability and personal backstory that he shared brought me to tears. But his triumph over his past and indefatigable pursuit of the facts to know why and how relationships grow inspired me to keep reading. What most people don't realize is that we are all incurring social debt all the time and that it takes work - clearly described by the simple and accessible approach that Ali & Lucio lay out - to get out of social debt and start building enough social currency to move forward with our lives. This is a comprehensive playbook for success!

If you ever read this, thank you, RVA, this made my day :).

My story is a personal one, yes, but it's been well worth sharing and I have no regrets about doing so.

If anything, I only hope more people hear it so they can hopefully be inspired and moved to make great positive changes in their lives.

Nice one, Ali, thank you for sharing and I agree with that reviewer: it is a touching, moving, and inspirational story indeed.
