Zathrian Introduction

Hello all, looking forward to meeting you

I recently graduated high school and am on a gap year before attending college in the fall and I'm looking forward to being a part of this community. I come from an Ivy League background and although my family has done well for themselves education wise and financially, I've noticed a complete lack of knowledge relating to Power Dynamics. In school and especially during elections for clubs I was part of, I've picked up on powermoves that have occurred or certain social interactions that I considered "off" but I never could quite concisely describe it. Upon discovering The Powermoves, it gave me a framework to go off of and crystalized my understanding of social dynamics of which I'm very thankful for.

In my free-time I enjoy reading philosophy and non fiction books as well as playing strategy games. I'd love to meet all of you and if any of you guys would be interested in having a deep conversation and getting to know someone new you're welcome to reach out.

Welcome here Zathrian!

Much respect for recognizing those dynamics by yourself, and so early on -that's natural awareness already place, and a sign of good social/emotional intelligence as well-.

The gap year can be a great idea.
Take some time off for self-development and you can gain a lot more from your university time.

Generally speaking, bright and/or high-conscientiousness people can do great in wealthier countries even without much power awareness.
To maximize what you have and/or get to the very top then power awareness and skills are generally an important, if not fundamental skill.

Good to have you on the forum!

I appreciate the reply, thank you Lucio! Do you have any suggestions for what to do in University to maximize my growth? Maybe a mindset or specific actions or something you wish you did that you didn’t do?

Focus more on the learning around the university life, than on the content of the lessons.

There's like a trend of people lambasting the usefulness of university, and they're not totally wrong.

But they miss that a huge chunk of the learning comes from the socialization, the self-organization, the moving somewhere else, the providing for yourself, the co-habiting with other students, the partying, etc. etc.

Even what seems like the "small stuff", like doing grocery and cooking on your own is still big.

Some -some- of these guys criticizing University had the chance to do (some of) that type of learning because of their life circumstances, but not everyone does.
