2017-2019: A Review of The 1st Year of The Power Moves

Today makes the first year of life of this website.

One Year in Review

Over the course of one year The Power Moves published 320 posts and 30 video analyses.
The Youtube channel went from 0 to 4.000+ subscribers and the website went from 0 to 1.000 visitors a day (below is the weekly chart).

The little bump in August was the article on text flirting making it (relatively) "big" on Quora. And the depression in March was a tracking glitch (me bumbling the newly added AMP pages :).

Personal Growth

It's also been a great year for personal development, and this website played a big role in it.

Reading
I've always read quite a bit, but never as much like in this past year to write the book reviews. A few of those books are mostly space fillers -let's be honest here-, some are very good, and some others immensely expanded my horizons (check here my best books list so you go straight for the best).

Ego-Resilience
Producing and sharing content also helped me become more resilient from an ego perspective.
I consider ego-antifragility one of the fundamental building blocks of self-development, and as a proud man that was -and still partly is- one of my biggest weaknesses.

Vulnerability
Reading, delivering speeches at Toastmasters and writing about some personal failures also helped me open up on the less than stellar sides of my personality.
And I consider dropping the masks of coolness another big step in self-development.

SEO Skills
And of course, I started one year ago not knowing what Wordpress was. I had no idea how to launch a website and had pretty much zero knowledge of SEO.

Next Moves

Here are the immediate next projects brewing:

Relationship Series

Right now I'm working hard on a series of articles on relationships.

I believe indeed there's little understanding in the world on how relationships work. Which is a pity, because there's a lot of eye opening scientific research with very practical applications.
I believe that simplifying and spelling out that research literature with concrete examples and how to guides can greatly improve our romantic relationships.

Once I'm done, I will then pull everything in one single summary article linking out to all the in-depth posts for examples and how-tos.
I want it to be a bookmarkable resource that people can always go back to when they need to fine tune or bring back their relationships towards a healthier path.

And well, of I'll also add a for sale guide product: we can't live on just writing :)

Social Skills

Next I'll be tackling social skills.
Adding new book summaries on social skills, making a list of the top books on the topic and finally finishing the Social Mastery series.

Email Newsletter

During this next year I will set up the first email newsletters.
I find most newsletter way too chit chatty, self-serving or in the "look what I've been up to" style. And I always wondered:

is there anyone who actually gives a F about this guy's latest answer on Quora or him visiting his parents?

I know that most of the times, I didn't. So I'm looking for ways to add better value and got a couple ideas brewing.

Big Thank You

A big thank you to:

  • All the readers

Of course.

  • Anyone with a feedback

A big electronic hug to anyone who's given a feedback, shared a content or just dropped a hi.
Thank you!

  • Those who removed their adblocker!!

This is fresh stuff. I put a message for adblockers a few days ago encouraging some to either whitelist this website or share an article IF they liked.
I didn't expect anything out of it. But was quite amazed to see that 7 users actually did whitelist this website.

Small actions like these make me misty-eyed and a big believer that the human race is an amazing thing :).
Thank you guys, I am humbled by your magnanimity. Do let me know if you feel the ads are too much!

  • Thank you to all the subscribers

Thank you to all the subscribers, who passed the triple digits a few weeks ago.
I haven't sent out a single email newsletter so far (I really meant it when I said "I write little" :).
And it's because I either make my emails amazing or I don't write at all. And I'm working on that (read above).

  • Sebastian

For reminding me, more than once, to stick to my core activities. Such as: instead of wasting days in trying to make basic CSS work, I should pay someone to do it.
Boy was he right! Sometimes you just need someone to tell you what a dumbass you're being :).

  • Jing-Wen

For videos and pictures, for precious feedback on the product page and, of course, for designing the logo.

SUMMARY

It's been a great year but there's so much more to do compared to what's already been done (isn't that always the case?).

Thank you and ride on :).
