Being challenged by a subordinate as a new leader
Quote from John Freeman on August 7, 2023, 11:23 amI changed my mind: I will not go (covert) aggressive on her or too dominant. I felt a bit frustrated when I wrote that.
I could have gone assertive in a calm voice: « It’s not about me. It’s about following the orders your attending gives you »
My boss told me that the residents have to do what I tell them by law. I knew it but hearing it solidified it in my mind.

Ype, absoltey agree with your supervisor.
It's always more challenging to be new leader, which is great: fantastic learning opportunity.
But no matter how "new" you are, you are the new leader now and she has to fall in line.

I wouldn't even mention "me" and touch that frame.
If you wanna say something like that, I'd say "that's not the point, it's about... ".
Or also possible, trash that frame:
Nono, what are you talking about, it's very simple here, if I tell you X, there is a reason why, and I expect you to do X. Is that clear?
