Honing Empathy & Feel for Social Situations
Quote from Matthew Whitewood on August 11, 2021, 6:57 am***Post in Progress***
This thread will potentially be messy for brainstorming.
How to Build Deep Emotional Connection?
I'm thinking of the basics of vibing first. (emotional WIIFT)
Then, "business vibing". (financial & business WIIFT)The paper on Xiaoice inspired me to start on vibing.
Human User: Why do we always live the way we don't like?
Non-empathetic response: Love a person from my heart.
Acceptable response: Because we want too much.
Empathetic response: Because that's what others like.In order to choose the empathetic response, one needs to have a good feel of the following:
- Commonalities with other humans in general
- Most humans like to have meaning in their life and pursue things they like & find meaningful
- The social pressure of being pro-social according to societal norms
- Society's expectations
- Feeling the conversation partner's emotions & thoughts
- Does the person want advice or for you to listen, understand & emphasise?
- What does he/she want to say but need your "stamp of approval" and non-judgemental attitude to continue opening up because it's something vulnerable and maybe even not socially acceptable?
- Awareness of your own personality and perspectives
- One needs to have own view & perspective and be consistent.
If not, you come across as fake because you are forcing a vibe.
