Opinions on Andrew Tate?
Quote from bluesky on September 25, 2022, 11:25 pmBackground
A friend whose critical thinking I respect said he sees Andrew Tate as a great example and then showed me some videos.
The videos were mostly motivational stuff which seemed generally good as a mindset(Example: "Always respect what you say. If you say you'll do 1000 push ups, do them.", "Have a network of high value people"). However, there was nothing research-based in them.
More Research
I read some articles on the Guardian and other new paper against Tate, which were basically a list of accusations("Tate has been accused of X" and "has caused controversy by saying Y") creating a narrative of "Andrew Tate is bad" . These articles provided zero insight into his mental modals and were useless, I won't even link them.
I then looked at his website (Hustlers University) which basically says "we'll teach you how to make money from e-commerce, FBA, copywriting etc.". You can make money from all these but then again there are hundreds of other scams saying the same thing.
I think this is still not enough information to form an opinion.
TPM info
I see there's an article on TPM mentioning Tate: https://thepowermoves.com/charlie-ben-podcast-review/
In this other episode they spend half an hour, literally, talking about Andrew Tate, a dark triad scammer.
Tate’s business model -and narcissistic need- is to court attention at all costs, and he does it by being as provocative as possible.Question
Does anyone know more about this Andrew Tate? Do you have some idea about his mental models?
If he is a narcissist, do you have some more information about this?
Thank you!

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on September 26, 2022, 3:00 amPersonally, what I sad in that article.
Maybe "scammer" is a strong word, and albeit I can't know for sure without checking him more deeply, I'm not going to.
Time is limited, and the little I've seen is enough to raise enough red flags that I'd be truly surprised if he has any really good product out.
Not much to add, and also for power dynamics and self-respect: I consider it disempowering and low self-respect to spend much time further discussing this topic.
I've done it for Tai Lopez back in the days and as one of the first articles here, but it's a waste of time to go through the same motions for every latest self-help marketing fad.
Edit:
Moved it to the "learning" subforum

Quote from John Freeman on September 26, 2022, 3:44 amSame as Lucio. When I heard about this guy , I spent 5 min on Wikipedia and 5 min on YouTube and I had my opinion.
What I thought: yep one more of those types (Dan Bilzerian, etc). Next.
You can make your own opinion. To me, these kinds of people use their mouths to make money. It’s especially powerful with the internet where you can create any image you want and then amplify it. As for who’s the guy. I don’t know exactly. What I know is that I am not interested to know more about him. I see his interviews pop up and I don’t click.
You can do the same: do your investigation on YouTube. There are many videos of people about this question.

Top tip Lucio to know the red flags from other gurus(will checkout your Tai Lopez article).
Cheers

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on September 26, 2022, 3:04 pmYeah, it's not necessarily that the "latest self-help fad" may not have something to teach.
The question is also about opportunity costs: if you go for the most famous, chances are slim you're also going for the most skilled, or with most insights, or with most of your interest in mind (VS theirs).
Quoting from "naive self help" article:
So what, can’t you also learn from marketers, conmen, idiots, and charlatans?
Potentially, yes.
But you should prioritize different teachers because the above are far more likely to misguide you, since:
- What sells rarely is what’s true and effective, and marketers tell you what sells
- Character matters because teachers and learners have diverging interests. What’s best for the charlatan isn’t what’s best for you, and charlatans and conmen have no qualms to sell you crap for their smallest personal gain
This is why it’s generally true that you learn from what the marketers do, rather than from the half-baked self-help they preach and sell.

Not much, I don't know enough about the guy to give a fair opinion. But, from the little I've seen, I don't have the best impression of him so far.
My first introduction to Tate was this video where he said this:
https://youtu.be/vlT3zUrRT6c?t=472
Andrew Tate: "I've been running a webcam studio for nearly a decade, I've had over 75 girls work for me, and my business model is different than 99% of webcam studio owners. Over 50% of my employees were actually my girlfriend at the time and, of all my girlfriends, none were in the adult entertainment industry before they met me...My job was to get women to fall in love with me. Literally, that was my job. My job was to meet a girl, go on a few dates, sleep with her, test if she's quality, get her to fall in love with me to where she'd do anything I say..."
This gave me the feeling that this Tate guy wasn't the type I wanted to follow, so I left it there.
Then, a few months later, Coffeezilla (someone I'm subscribed to), published a video further confirming my thoughts:
https://youtu.be/BijOF8I2t_4?t=465
And, finally, someone who's posted some videos I've enjoyed also published a video about their experience with one of Tate's programs (he got scammed twice):
https://youtu.be/-W86TeZImiU?t=280
All in all, not a fan.
However, my entire impression of Tate is based on three videos (I also didn't want to invest too much time into researching the guy), so I'm open to reading other thoughts.
