Small doings

PreviousPage 7 of 7

Learnt a lot in the Analyst gig at the wealth company but ultimately it was a non-starter.   Big project me and 26 other contractors had been brought on for didn't  get up.  After 3 months on scraps of work took a senior PM gig at another company. Upside: Did well with with the work I was given got 2 referees and one work mate all good guys I will try and stay in touch with.  Learnings on some of the compliance stuff helped get the next gig.   Got past a panel of 5 ladies at interview  so i mist have sounded right.  In between had surgery and our much loved ex street cat died so new job was tough but got through and by next week should  be able to go to office

Cheers Transitioned, good to hear from you again and best best wishes of super speedy recovery (and glad it sounds like it wasn't too bad anyway if you're starting soon again)!

Thanks everyone, good to be back.  I saw the doc today and my 3 bouncing little hernias have been fixed.  Basically like 3 bike tyre patches but I was a bit Swiss cheesey for a while.  Once I ve got through all the rehab looking forward to being able to go 100 percent  on my tennis.  Been 3 years since I could do that.

Awesome man!

Sounds like a case of short-term higher pain, but fixing the root cause for long-term well-being.
Very worth it.

OK day 1 2024

Time to set the strategies.

The top 3 are:

  1.   Get me and Mrs somewhere decent to live.  2023 was us stuck in a small apartment coz some idiot tradie had made my house unusable.  After umming and ahing over investment properties we've decided to buy a better apartment close to her work, fix up and rent out the others
  2. Get another job.  I'm over being a Project Manager - too much having your hands and feet tied and being told to swim faster.  I want some direct reports or at least established spot in the food chain.  Updated the resume and started applying for Prod Mgr and IT Manager jobs. Also applying for project manager jobs where the project is a bit more serious, i.e you need more subject matter knowledge. Bit of a hail mary trying a X-over at my age but you don't know until you try.  It is amazing how often  random chance provides.
  3. Look after my physical and mental health better.  Badminton, Chess and maybe a public speaking club online if I can find one that isn't like a cult.  Getting to that age where health is more important than career.

Hello Transitioned,

thanks for sharing with us your goals. I mean: it's always cool and inspiring to read someone else's goals.

As much as I would love to give some input on your goals (seeing you post in your journal and wanting to reciprocate the support), there's none I see.

So I'll just say: much success to you! :)

Yeah, same :)

Just on the cultish thing, some Toastmasters I've been to do feel a bit cultish indeed.

Nothing too crazy, but you can feel it a bit that many are there, sort of trapped and chasing that little-pond status.

But once you walk in that you're "power skilled", you can get respect/status without ever having to toe the cult-ish line.
And maybe you can meet some other cool guys there and as they same "game recognize game" -eagles recognize other high flyers-.

Thanks Lucio, very interesting. Totally my short experience described (went 3 times): you have the low power low status people in life coming there to scrape some status and power (like in all free-forming association outside of work), the normal people who like the concept and want to learn, and the high flyers.
