Hello secretkey,

Welcome here man (and feel free to make an intro and checkout the guidelines).

Your proposals there are a huge step forward compared to "pick your brain".

You may already know this, but still adding for clarity:

One caveat is that to make those formats work, the two should be either around the same value/level, or at least the asker should have some expertise n some fields that the receiver may gain from.

Because if not, it's a power move on its own.

To make an exaggerated example:

Imagine the new intern at Twitter saying to Elon Musk "let's do coffee and bounce ideas", you see quickly why that would't work: the intern has no credibility and no previous history.
So it feels like he's hiding his request and his taking and pretending to exchange (social scalping).

Just got this reply from a service provider:

Thanks for contacting me. I would be very interested in working with you on this project. <please add details here>

Obviously, he had a script that he forgot to amend :).

It's a good approach, but the script fails the basic WIIFT.

It says he is very interested in this project, but what does it say about what value he can add to me?

None.

So the people who add just one thing that add value to me will generally be chosen over this person.

This post is from a tech learning community that offers a 1 week free trial for you to decide if you wanna enroll in the paid program.

Mr. Don't Care About WIFT: "Hey I signed up for the free trial! could I get an extension to my one week free trial? it will help me find a job!"

The moderator of the community answers to most posts instantly, this particular post as of today is still un answered. Lol.

This is definitely a WIFT Failure.

In this case, He could have started  "hey! Just signed up to the free course. it's course and potentially life changing for me"

But I got stumped  stumped in regards to how to make the request win - win

he clearly has no intention of purchasing the paid course, so the promise of a future value is kind of tricky for me to figure out.

- Giving an indication that he would buy the course in the future would be dishonest.
- Since it's a niche not many people are into, telling that he shares the platform around would also not sound genuine, because even the owner know that most people don't care yet
- Being thankful towards them could be a value, but not valuable enough for them to actually care

any ideas?

Definitely. They should get value from each other for these to work...

Yeah, that one might be tricky because I personally believe that if there's truly no value you can give to make an exchange a win-win, then you should consider focusing on building up your value until you can go into more exchanges with more to give.

However, in a case like this, I think that it could also be less about giving and more about at least showing an effort and willingness to give so that it's a more balanced exchange.

For example, maybe this person could've started a thread on Reddit (in a relevant tech subreddit) and made a post leaving an honest testimonial for the free trial of that program.
