New TPM logo: feedback?

Horizontal Version

Vertical Version

As per Matthew's feedback, also asked the designer to do the same with a shiny gold version.

I don't wanna sway any opinion, but man... That bird taking off, really wants to make me take action :)

Yea, the two designs feel like the same thing said differently (which isn't good or bad). And, I guess it's now a competition of "who said it better" (if that makes sense):

  • The first logo has a more simple eagle design: And, that gives the design more of a traditional "logo" feel.
  • The second logo has a very detailed eagle design: And, that makes the logo feel like it's more for a hunting shop or something.

That said, I love the eagle taking off. I didn't give it much thought until Lucio mentioned it, but it speaks volumes of what TPM aims to do (and is very much able to do) for its learners. And, I love that.

On the shiny gold: I like it. It makes the rest of the gold around the website look more like a "yellow". And, one might think that's a bad thing, but I think it helps the logo stand out more. Like a beacon of hope amidst the darkness :).

My final thought is that Growfast had a point on the difference between a vertical vs horizontal design approach. The vertical looks a bit more cluttered than I would've liked if I were a newcomer to this website.

So, some possible feedback for the designer:

  • Smooth out some of the eagle's edges: to make the eagle design look more simplistic (which makes it appear more "traditional" and professional)
  • Keep the eagle taking off: a great idea
  • Go for a horizontal design: to make the logo neater
  • Use the eagle to replace the letter "V" in "MOVES": to keep the eagle involved and included in the brand/logo

I think those adjustments will move us further in the right direction.

Thank you, Ali!

From your message it sounds like you don't see the two versions co-existing.

Such as, the horizontal one being used when there is a lot of horizontal space (imagine: YouTube or Linkedin banners), and the vertical one being used when there isn't as much horizontal space (for example, in the footer).

Maybe having two versions of a logo is a no-no?
I'm quite clueless here, happy to hear opinions.

The "shinier versions":

Horizontal

Vertical

I'm not against having two logos—with one being horizontal and one vertical.

I simply feel that if we decide to create a vertical logo we'd need to brainstorm it as if it were its own separate logo. That way, we could organize it so it's less cluttered.

In the vertical one above, if I were new to this website, my eyes would go on this journey:

  • I see the word "the": no thoughts yet
  • Then, I see the eagle: now I'm thinking, "What is the eagle for? What does it mean?"
  • Then, I read "power moves": "What does that ['power moves'] mean?"
  • I go back up to the top to read it all together: Now, I see "the" and "power moves" altogether and I think "Ah, 'the power moves', I get it now"
  • I continue back to reading the rest—"fly with the eagles": I think, "Ah, so that's why there's an eagle there?"
  • I go back up to see if the bird looks like an eagle: "Yeah, that's an eagle alright. OK, so, that's why there's an eagle—that makes sense."
  • I reread the whole thing again to connect the two (seemingly separate) ideas: "'The Power Moves, fly with the eagles.' So, The Power Moves helps people fly with the eagles. OK, now I got it."

Of course, not everyone's journey is going to be the same. And, since we can read images pretty fast, this might only be a 6-10 second journey in reality.

But, look at, for example, this vertical logo:

It's a straightforward reading from left to right—like reading a book. And, after you've read it, that's when you notice you were reading down because it's a vertical logo.

And, that can be done with the current logo if the eagle is incorporated into the logo creatively:

E.g.

It follows that left-to-right downward rule that helps it go from "cluttered" to readable. And, a shorter journey for easier comprehension.

All that said, of course, this is all my opinion. I think any design is a form of art, so it's subjective.

So, more feedback would always be welcome on this.

Final thoughts for now:

As a footer, I also think that the approach I mentioned above would work better.

E.g.

And, as I mentioned before, the eagle is a bit too detailed. I feel like I would find it on a "protect the environment" sticker.

So, adjust those two things, and I think we'll be golden (pun intended :).

Thank you so much Ali, it makes a lot of sense!

Yeah, up to a certain point.
Many of the things you shared for example objectively improved -sometimes even revolutionized- a concept or idea.

In my opinion, there should be a simple square logo for YouTube and social media.
This would be the eagle in my opinion which fits nicely into a square.

Including the name of the website can work but I think "The Power Moves" is a bit too long.
One can use this for the website's favicon too albeit without the background.
The current favicon is still the blue P.

The great thing about YouTube and social media is that the brand's name (The Power Moves) appears beside the logo.
As such, one may not need to repeat the name in the logo itself.

For example here for your YouTube square logo, the name on the right overshadows the one in the logo.
The P alone as a square logo would suffice.

Then, there's the more complex logo that you have shown above with the eagle and the words.
This can be included in the rectangular banners of the social media pages like on the LinkedIn page.
Either putting the rectangular logo itself or photoshopping the logo onto the existing banner.

This complex logo would be your design or Ali's design:

At least this is what I do for my websites.

Maybe having two versions of a logo is a no-no?

As long as all the logos, website design, images paint a consistent brand identity, it's okay in my opinion.
So people can recognise something to be part of this website instinctively.

Google is doing a bad job in this aspect in my opinion.
Too many colours for the square logo.

And its other products try to create the same look and feel.
However, I don't think it catches on that well at the moment.

The current TPM theme goes quite well with the cover of Ultimate Power in my opinion:

At least with the colours.
Maybe you could put the eagle logo here in the future.

The current theme does not go so well with Dating Power Dynamics:

I think it may take a lot of thought behind the design and working with designers to come out with an overall, consistent brand identity.
A look & feel that is unique enough to this website so it's easily recognisable compared to other brands.

Though I believe the black & yellow/golden colour is working well for the design of this website.

Thoughts?

It's now less "realistic" and more "stylized"
