Small doings

Finished the 'magic words'  Big closure moment to throw all those notebooks :-)

Got at least 20 pages of situational power phrases out of it so that along with the books and the forum content here is MORE than enough vocab to use.

Finished 2 more scripts:

  • undermining subordinate challenging your plan
  • team member making excuses for not getting task done

Ohhhhh boy can't believe how slow I am creating these scripts, getting them at the right level in realistic dialogues is harder than I anticipated.  Well, only one way to get better.

Anyway written 2 more:

  • calling out an idea stealer at a meeting
  • dealing with a serial interrupter

Thanks for the new year gift man!

  • calling out an idea stealer at a meeting
  • dealing with a serial interrupter

These 2 are surprisingly common.

My productivity secret is when it's 38 degrees C in Melbourne you don't leave the house.  Although I have hired one of those big bins so I also have to be seen onboard with my Mrs clean out crusade.

I see a lot of busy bee managers who take ideas from vendors or the internal delivery guys at one meeting and sell them at another without crediting.  Their war cry is:  I don't have to solve it I just have to get the right people in the room.

Zoom has created cover for #2. At least half a dozen times I ve heard players say I m on a slow link so sorry if I accidentally overtalk.  No - zoom didn't turn you into an A-hole mate.  You did that on your own.

So today's swag of scripts is:

  • change manager accusing me of stealing team’s credit
  • colleague using broken record to try and set my priorities
  • new Manager going around me to my team on day 1
  • Office social event - determined sniping attack
  • your project plan is too techie

From Feedbacks & Clarifications, Post #352

I'm trying to be more regular with my meditation and putting in some interrupt techniques under fire.  The work on inner game is eternal.

I'm working on this as well.
Maybe we can explore and share together.

I am using

Jordan Peterson's Self Authoring Program

My top 3 faults from the Self Authoring program are

  • Find myself too upset after I have a conflict with someone
  • Have a hard time calming down after becoming upset
  • Am easily disturbed and upset

These are the faults that I am working on at the moment.

And Jordan Peterson asks you to elaborate upon each point via

  • An Experience Due to the Fault
  • A Possible Alternative Outcome
  • Guidelines for General Improvement

Judith S. Beck's CBT Book

The book by Judith is outstanding.
It's a book to teach therapists about cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

For example, she used CBT on her student doubting whether she can learn CBT:

Thanks for sharing.  I definitely also have those 3 plus a large helping of imposter syndrome. Which when you consider my years in and dozens of projects delivered is clearly ridiculous.

A lot of that came from my ignorance of power dynamics.  So I m in the right place here doing the necessary.

My approach is less sophisticated.  I focus on meditation for calmness and clarity and how to trigger the new behaviours.

For meditation I use a plain old mantra, breath meditation and guided meditation (using the free material off Tara Brach s site).

For triggers I have my default responses on cards either side of all my large screens.  And a reminder set twice a day in Google keep.  And of course my big push is to make scripts and voiceovers.  Which is time consuming but doable.

Thanks for sharing your strategies. I can definitely use some reminders via Google Keeps or notifications.

I am still at the exploratory phase though. So yet to crystallise my triggers.

I'm loving your journal... So did you have the opportunity to call out an idea stealer in a meeting recently? I'd be really interested to know how you did it and how it went. I've encountered that situation myself, and it's a tricky one to navigate...
