Strategies, Techniques, & Mindsets (Foundational)

So if you’re a giver, you must become a bit more like a matcher to at least be more strategic as to whom you give and avoid losing against the assholes.

A much better angle for her would be for her to downplay the calculative value exchange, and to instead play the emotional one -ie. “long term customer who loves your work“, for example-.
And better for her to avoid thread-expanding on my supposedly infinite obglication towards her and, of course, being a bit more polite in her ask.

PS. Possibly worth dropping a link to the change of policy that you've implemented. Might also be worth expanding a little how at the start of your TPM journey it was a reasonable deal for you to offer, but as things progressed it become more and more impossible to fulfil long-term, as per thread etc...

On occasion it feels like I'm nit picking. @lucio - do let me know if I should keep these coming in this format or otherwise.

J Les, these are absolutely golden, I'm super grateful for them -and to you, and to anyone else who's posting here-.

Also the articles you fixed here -besides the lessons- are SUPER valuable.

I was waiting to be sure they were all fixed before writing here and thanking you -and anyone else who wrote in the meanwhile-.

And at the same time, as much as I respect my time, I want to respect your time (and would feel bad to take too much of it).

So to maximize time/effectiveness, I'd say this:

  • if it's an obvious typo / grammar mistake, go for it
  • If the sentence structure make it truly difficult to understand the meaning, go for it
  • If it could just be "better written", you may consider skipping it -and not because it's not useful, but because I'll go through PU once again, and probably many times more, and one of the main goal is to simplify and streamline, so chances are that it will be improved anyway, just a bit down the road-

And for all of them, obviously, only when and if you have time, and have pleasure to do so.

And for all that you shared so far, thank you thank you again man 🙏

Community, new content and Confidence University now available here.

Delighted to hear that Lucio.

Excellent - I'm glad you're finding these valuable.

No probs - and I really appreciate you clarifying so that we can maximize effectiveness and value of the feedback on here.

I'll keep them coming as and when I came across anything that's worthwhile mentioning.

The “possibility” frame is a wonderful social exchange power move: it’s not yet a necessity, she must still win you over.

How to Recognize The “Takers”

And some people simply default to either a giving, or a taking.

This is why you generally want to avoid working for narcissists and takers: they much rather leave you with the crumbles.

Still, we generally stay from catch-all rules since everything is situational.
So there are situations when may you want to engage with a taker.

How to Recognize The “Takers”

For example, if you can ensure your interest aligns with a drive and effective taker, then some takers, in some situations, may be able to bring a bigger slice of the pie into your corner than, say, a gullible giver (or even a matcher, if the environment is highly competitive).

Technique: Collaborative Reframing

When I ask for something new to take care of, people may be more focused on the immediate work I’m asking, a loss for them, than on the long-term benefits that work will give us all, a win for all.
