Power duck's journal

Page 1 of 25Next

Hello guys,

In this journal I will post my progress, discoveries/thoughts and social interactions during my  self development journey. I believe that this will be very useful.

I have completed 50% of PU so far, and it has changed completely how I see social interactions and people. To be honest I expected a lot from this course, but I   couldn´t imagine that it would surpass my expectations. Unfortunately my frame control techniques and "power skills" are still a bit lacking -but way better than before-, for that reason, my current objectives regarding power skillss are:

  • Improve my ability to identify frames.
  • Behave in a more dominant manner.
  • Get to understand well how the social exchange works.
  • Minimize verbal expressions that make me come across as low power.

Foundational stuff, so Its important that I get it right.

I also plan to get more into psychology, already started reading Evolutionary Psychology and it seems really interesting so far.

Cheers.

P.S:

Currently Im studying for my finals, so I dont have much time to study PU.  However in 3 days I got my last exam before summer vacation  by then I will be able to focus on studying power dynamics and psychology as much as I want.

Also, I would like to make reading and engaging in the forum a habit, however, I dont have yet the knowledge to give proper answers /contribute as much as I would want. I think that posting here in my journal could help me to learn (and possibly contribute a bit) so I can give back in the near future :)

Hello Power duck, good to see you on this side of the forum.

If I may give a highly unrequested advice on this:

It is absolutely interesting indeed.

Personally, I'd focus more on the practical stuff first you mentioned before.

About this, it sounds like you're doing great already.

The change in how you see social interactions means you're (a lot more) power aware now.

It's the precondition to improving, and a sign you probably internalized at least some of the main foundations.
It's HUGE, so props to you.

Thanks, for the advice. Maybe unrequested but much appreciated :).

I'll focus on the foundations and the stuff I mentioned earlier then. This year has been crazy due to my lack of power awareness and power skills. Dont want to mess this badly again, thankfully I learnt a thing or two thanks to It.

Cheers

PRODUCTIVITY:

Because I:

  • Tend to be unproductive while studying for college.
  • Don´t seem to enjoy that activity as much as I would want to.

From now on I will dedicate as much effort in learning about productivity and changing habits that lead to procrastination/being unproductive, as I dedicate to learning power skills and psychology.

This week I will apply the following mindsets/strategies and see if I get more enjoyment/am more productive while studying:

  1. IDENTIFY THE HOURS IN WHICH YOU ARE MORE PRODUCTIVE. AND SET YOUR STUDY SESSIONS IN THOSE HOURS.
  2. SET GOALS FOR THE DAY, DO NOT TAKE BIG RESTS UNTIL YOU FINISH ALL OF YOUR GOALS. ONCE YOU FINISH YOUR STABLISHED GOALS YOU ARE FREE TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT.
  3. USE THE POMODORO TECHNIQUE.
  4. STOP SAYING "I'LL DO IT LATER", STRIVE TO GET DONE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN IN THE PRESENT MOMENT.
  5. CHANGE THE WAY IN WHICH YOU SEE THE ACTIVITY. E.G: YOU ARE NOT SIMPLY "STUDYING FOR COLLEGE", YOU ARE UNDERSTANDING AND STUDYING THE DIFFERENT BRANCHES OF MATHS, AS WELL AS PICTURING IN YOUR MIND HOW THEY ARE STRUCTURED AND HOW THEY ARE RELATED TO EACH OTHER. NOT WITH THE INTENTION OF SIMPLY PASSING A TEST, BUT WITH THE INTENTION OF ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE.
  6. TRY TO CREATE A POSITIVE FEEDBACK LOOP.

I will submit posts every day of the week with the results I get while applying these tips. Some of them could be changed if necessary.

1/7 days

Today I have been quite productive during my study session.

Overall I feel that the most useful tips have definetely been 2,5 and 6. Focusing on learning and enjoying the task at hand instead of simply doing what could be considered as "boring" seems to do the trick.

However I have found one more tip that seems to be way more useful than the others. In fact, I have seen this term in the forums a couple of times, and that's cultivating a POSITIVE INNER JUDGE. (or something like that)

I will have to make a bit of a research about this.

MINDSETS:

This past days I've been thinking about Lucio's response in this post thread. Specially about this part in particular:

Quote from Lucio Buffalmano on June 19, 2023, 11:57 am
.......

That was weak.

To yourself first.
You betrayed yourself.

Make a mental note: no more betraying yourself, your integrity, and your self-respect.
Don't allow people to corner you into turkey lying -and worse yet, a lie that is bad for you and good for them-.

And it was also weak vis-avis her because you caved in to her frame.

My question:

Do you really think she was out of line?
Then hold that freaking frame.

.......

So, I have set becoming a straight shooter as a new objective, as I lack certain mindsets/values that could help me become a high quality individual.

So, till now I have found that applying the following tips/mindsets could help me to achieve that desired outcome:

  • Honesty is a gift you give to other people, hence only those who are willing to engage in win-win exchanges with you are deserving of it. (That doesn't mean that you dont enforce boundaries or speak your mind when needed)
  • ALWAYS stick up for what you believe in. NEVER accept frames that disempower you, even if doing it  "could prevent" an argument from happening. You ALWAYS come first.
  • DO NOT LIE when someone asks you for your opininon. However..... (I think that) lying to nasty individuals isn't always a bad idea.
  • Do not be afraid to say things that people "could" not like. IN MO HOW YOUR WORDS MAKE OTHERS FEEL IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. (Of course this doesn't mean you should be an asshole)

I still have to search a bit more about the value giving inner judge, as well as about new mindsets that I have to apply, and negative ones that I have to correct.

PRODUCTIVITY:

2/7 day,

Given that today I had to see some relatives and did not have much time for studying maths or PU. Tomorrow will count as the 2nd day.

That's a great point, Power duck.

I'm now thinking that starting off "straight" may be the best and most effective learning approach than starting Machiavellian.

Such as: first straight and high power.
Then Machiavellian and strategic for whenever needed.

One reason is that the base behavior should be straight/high-power in your most important relationships, and not Machiavellian.

And the second reason is that it seems just more effective to learn that way and people find it easier.

The other way around is a lot more complex, too.
I've now seen several examples of folks wanting to do the Machiavellian thing, but only coming across as sneaky/weak instead.

Yeah, I agree, I think that most folks that aren't straight and try to be machiavellian usually disregard their integrity and self respect because they are willing to say whatever they deem as "necessary" in order to deceive/persuade even if it means denigrating themselves.

PRODUCTIVITY:

2/7 day,

Today I've been less productive than day 1. I've realised that CHANGING SUBJECTS/ACTIVITIES is sometimes necessary to be more productive studying the same subject for hours can be very tiresome, as well as to make study sessions more enjoyable.

So far the most useful tips for studying have been:

  1. SET GOALS FOR THE DAY, DO NOT TAKE BIG RESTS UNTIL YOU FINISH ALL OF YOUR GOALS. ONCE YOU FINISH AND ONLY AFTER FINISHING YOU ARE FREE TO STUDY PU.
  2. USE THE POMODORO TECHNIQUE.
  3. STOP SAYING "I'LL DO IT LATER", STRIVE TO GET DONE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN IN THE PRESENT MOMENT. MORE TIME WASTED MEANS LESS TIME DEDICATED TO IMPROVING YOUR POWER SKILLS, AND THEREFORE NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE THE RELATIONSHIPS YOU WISH TO HAVE.
  5. TRY TO CREATE A POSITIVE FEEDBACK LOOP, SPECIALLY FOCUS ON ENJOYING THE ACTIVITY.
  6. EMOTIONALLY REWARD YOURSELF WHEN YOU ACHIEVE YOUR OBJECTIVES, AND PUNISH YOURSELF WHEN YOU DON'T. (Value adding inner judge, I'll try using David Goggins inner judge style, without overworking myself to dead of course :) )
  7. CHANGE SUBJECTS FROM TIME TO TIME SO YOU DON'T GET BORED.

MINDSETS:

I have to search about high power mindsets, and find a proper definition of what high power is. I am not that yet able to identify value adding high power behaviour.

POWER NOTEBOOK:

Today I have started PU again from 0, from now on I will write short summaries of each lesson in a notebook. I believe that this will help me to retain more information.

HABITS:

I have to start reading other users' post, even if I'm not able to give proper answers yet. Contributing in the forum isn't only about writing in my journal.....
